How does a tattoo on your ribs feel?

I want to get my first tattoo and I was really excited about it until people started making me feel like I can't handle the pain. I think I have a normal pain tolerance. Is it that bad where they would be trying to talk me out of it? I'm getting it anyway but I just want to know what to expect!

I've got a very large tattoo on my thigh (nee up to back) it took 10 hours in total, and i'm a very skinny girl. Did it hurt? yes it did. Nobody is not gonna feel anything when getting a tattoo. If your worried about the pain, i suggest taken pain killers before hand. Also try not to take brakes. If your going for a 4 hour session try push through. Reason being, i found you will go a bit numb after about 15 minuets. If you take a brake you'll have to start again. Also make sure you bring sugary drinks or juices to keep your blood sugar levels up.
You can also try distract yourself with a book or music.
Generally for most people, you don't feel any pain afterward. I had a little pain when laying on it, but this went away in 2 to 3 days.
Other then that..suck it up princess! If you like the design its worth it in the end.

What does everyone think about an 18 year old girl with a rib cage tattoo?

I am really thinking about getting a rib cage tattoo when I turn 18 in Jan. I was thinking about either getting a long patterns of lillies with many curves in them and spirals, or butterflies or stars? What do you think?

i love rib cage tattoos i got my rib cage done when i was 17 (after endlessly begging my mom) and it's my favorite tattoo by far, i heard horror stories of how bad it hurts when it really didn't at all, all 4 hours of it. It's your body though so be sure of the design you want, Lillies sound way cute though! :)

How much does a traditional pin up girl tattoo cost?

I am getting ready to get my first tattoo and I have always wanted a traditional style pin up girl like a nurse or a mermaid. I'd prefer to get it on my side or calf. It's going to be 7- 7 1/2 in. In color. Which location do you think would hurt more?

Loaded question. Most artists charge around $150/hr, but will normally quote you on a piece. I've got two tattoos that cost me $150 and took 4-5 hrs (including breaks, etc.) and one that cost $350 (and took about the same amount of time). All depends on the artist and what you want to do. Straight American Traditional, no shading....who knows, but probably would take 2-3 hours tattoo time, depending on the design.

Shading and detail take a long time and a good artist, but not every artist can do a good American traditional tattoo like the mermaid. Find out what artist(s) specialize in what techniques in your area.

Ribs reputedly hurt a bit more than other areas, but I will say my calf burned like white hot coals as opposed to my shoulder/bicep area. Calves are far from you heart, so much more difficult in healing.

OMG....have to disagree with the guy below me. I LOVE pinup art. If you have it, women who like it will like you and let me tell you, a lot of hot girls LIKE pinups (and girls). Women are pretty. Why not? Especially if it's "tasteful" (ie ...no boobies without shells or a bikini top, okay???)

It's going to be my family's crest and I would like to have it inked somewhere that would be respectful A.K.A. not a tramp stamp. So I was wondering if anyone that has any tattoos could give me some suggestions?

Being that you are girl in my opinion its not only where you put it but how you shape it to your body. Also, you may need to worry about it not being seen by employers. Generally, rib cage, lower back to the side, mid-back could be difficult to be seen unless in bathing suit. Then it could be tasteful on you upper back or ankle. Usually putting it in the middle of lower back, upper leg, lower stomach, etc could be considered trashy. Also take into consideration the natural curves your body has. Some tattoos even look better when you match them to the natural beauty your body already has. My personal favorite it the upper rib cage with its intense curves. I would just do a lot of research, get a good design, and find a good artist then it really doesn't matter..good luck!

Does any one have any ideas? Shooting stars look REAL pretty and also tropical flowers with vines stretching down is pretty too... Im a Girly Girl so nothng like skulls or anything like that thanks for helping!!!
OH and something that wont look bad on darker skin...IM Not as dark as tha ink itself ;)

Will you be a girly girl in about 5-10 years? That is one question you need to think about. I cover up a lot of tattoos like that. And can you handle pain a lot? Rib tattoos hurt like heck! I have a rib tattoo and I admit, I cried a little. It is the most painful tattoo I've ever had. Try going to your tattoo artist and asking them to combine shooting stars and tropical flowers into a design going up/down your ribs. We are good at stuff like that. But, only if you know you won't regret this and you know you can handle the pain!
