Lulcake, Rate my Tatt ideas?

Opheliac

list of tattoo idea and their meanings. pretty much all but one aren't in stone. ive been thinking for years. and ill be training in becoming a tattoo artist relatively soon.

1: a black undead koi fish a little above my heart. i want it to be crying blood and have the red kanji for love on its forhead, and off to the side (not on the fish) the kanji for perserverance.

the meaning for this comes from my father, he was adopted and his adoptive mother beat the shit out of him and stuffed religion down his throat. then thought "repenting" fixed their relationship. shes a very cruel woman. the koi fish being undead does represent my dad. koi are very durable. the bleeding eyes represent religion and the kanjis are for perservearing past it. and the love on its forhead meaning nobody really saw what was going on with her, but saw a "loving mother" i really love japanese culture too, it fits well.
im really solid on this one.

second is a lady ranicorn, on adventure time, wrapped arounnd my forearm...just at the wrist and ending on top of my hand eating a cupcake.
in the show nobody understands lady ranicorn because she speaks korean, and nobody really understands the amount of work she does, coloring the world. it really just represents me persuing my art career.

third is a realistic banana with wings below my belly button lol
basically because my full name is Ariana, my dad calls me banana or "flying banana" not what it sounds like. lol.

next is a tramp stamp of a cupcake.
every girl gets a tribal heart tramp stamp. why cant i get something equally as stupid? i like cupcakes. they like hearts. end of story.

i like them, but what do YOU thinks? :]

Answer
i love :D them all you are good at tattoo ideas il ask you for

Insight on picking a tattoo?(pictures)?

Ashley R

Ok so i've never been against tattoos, but have always said i would never get one unless it truely had meaning to mean... and it be small
Now i've decided i really want one
I know for sure i want here
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d25/aRRashley/ta.jpg
and i want it to be a small symbol
i found a kanji symbol which is said to mean heart, mind, spirit(which if i pick this one i will be sure that it really means that)
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d25/aRRashley/mindheartspirit.jpg
i love how it looks but im just not sure if it be too typical or strange because i have no asian background.
I'm a very down to earth girl, loving, kind, fun, goofy, all for peace...hah umm so i'm really trying to find something that represents me
so any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appericiated, thanks!

Answer
Getting kanji is dicey territory for a couple of reasons:

1) unless you personally know a native speaker who is fluent in written chinese or japanese, you can never be sure the kanji character is the one you want. not only can you not read it, but you also don't know whether it is simplified or traditional characters, what type of script it is and the consequences these things have on how others will see your tattoo. believe me, my ex-husband is Chinese/Taiwanese and we used to see awful and mistranslated Kanji all the time. It is everywhere!

2) if you have no asian background...well, it is obvious. Why not look into your own cultural background? Getting the italian, or greek or french word for whatever you are looking for would be a welcome change to kanji, and a lovely testament to whatever your background happens to be. You could ed up learning a bit about yourself as well!

My recommendation is to go to some tattoo studios and look through portfolios just to get ideas. Go to a bookstore and geek out on art books, graphic novels, symbology books, whatever inspires you. Brainstorm about people and things and books and poems that mean something to you.

Once you have some ideas, find an artist who is trustworthy, works in a clean environment with an autoclave system, and whose style you like, and schedule a consultation with that artist. Consults are always free. Tell him/her your ideas, show pictures, what ever inspires you, and together you'll be able to design a unique tattoo that will be perfect for you.

Good luck! (and believe me, the extra foot work is worth it =)

What is MPY in japanese?

i'm getting my first tattoo on my birthday, and i really want to get my grandpas initials on my wrist, (he died 3 years ago) but i want to get them in like, japanese or in something cool. what would it look like? oh, and, what are some cool ideas for star tattoos on the hip?

Answer
You cannot translate Western letters into Kanji. It doesn't work like that. You should stay away from Kanji all together, it's almost always incorrect. Please take a look at this website if you don't believe me: http://www.hanzismatter.com - read right down and watch the white people get mocked for having symbols on their skin that they have no idea of the meaning of. My personal favourite on there currently is the girl who unwittingly got 'cheap whore' tattooed on herself.

As for star tattoos, just google it. I promise you there are billions of images out there.

******
Mandie - haha I know. Though apparently that woman intended to get 'b!tch' so she probably had it coming to her! There are even funnier ones if you look on the old blog pages, but I forget most of them, I think there are a few who it turned out had extracts from chinese takeout menus tattooed on them, one was 'prostitute' and there were a couple of things like 'big mistake' LOL. There was one where a guy had gone to Japan on holiday and had a tattoo there and thought he had some tough saying, I forget, but it turned out to be something taking the piss out of foreigners, I can't find it now perhaps it's been removed, that one made me laugh though! My humour is probably too harsh!

japanese tattoo ideas help?

i wana tattoo like this.......
http://blogs.sltrib.com/vulture/uploaded_images/400_mcorkrey_kwinter_090306_85269392-776885.jpg

i like it to be japanese styled.
i like everything japanese, like fans, geshia girls, the music, japanese characters, samurais, dragons, flowers, koi (carp)

i just don't know how to have everything on my arm for a half sleeve tattoo. any ideas?????? thanks so much!! i want to make a good decision!

Answer
I strongly wouldn't recommend it due to the fact that it it has ties with the yakuza. I will however tell you to get the following designs: 1. Koi fish (most popular unisex tattoo); 2. Cherry Blossoms/any other flowers (also unisex, but most commonly worn by men); 3. Kanji/Haringa (not one of the best choices, but wildly common).

Can someone help me be creative with a tattoo idea to represent my family?

I have a Kanji symbol that says "sisters" and I want to add something around it, for example, like three different colored flowers to represent me and my sisters, but then I also want something to represent my dad and mom, I was thinking butterflies would be pretty with flowers (kinda played out) but i can't represent my dad as a butterfly!!!! lol. he's a grumpy old mountain man (the boys used to be terrified of him in high school) but a HUGE teddy bear and loves his girls.... i am so not creative. any ideas? (for any of it, including my sisters) thanks

Answer
How about a nice bullseye?

What Kind of Tattoo should I get?

Q. Ummm.
I'm a girly girly, blonde hair, gray eyes..
I want something sweet, cute and trendy, nothing that I would regret 10 years later.lol
Help please?

Answer
cute+sweet+trendy = regret in 10 years.

If you want to get inked just to get inked, you probably shouldn't get inked. I say this not to be mean, just honest. I love tattoos. I've got over 50 hours worth of them. But every one of them is meaningful and well thought-out.

If you are a smart, creative, and unique girl (which I'm sure you are...i hope you are not only defined by your femininity and blonde hair and gray eyes) then why categorize yourself with the trendy, flash-tattooed, oversexed masses when you could, with a bit more effort, create a perfect, personal, original, and meaningful piece that shows just how creative and lovely you truly are?

Go to your local bookstore and geek out on art books, tat books, poetry, graphic novels, whatever inspires you. Brainstorm ideas of things and people and hobbies and experiences that are important to you or define you in some way. I'm sure you can find something both cute and personal. The extra effort is worth it.

If you aren't willing to do the footwork, I can almost guarantee you'll be unhappy with whatever trendy, cute, sweet, sexy, or cool tattoo you decide to get off the flash wall. In a year or two you will look at your cute little cherry tat with the kanji character that is supposed to mean "desire" but actually means "bite," and it'll be so last season.

best of luck to you love, please reconsider getting ink until you are really ready for it =)
