Q. I'm just wondering, I think they're cute if done the right way. I see a few girls with chest pieces and I think they look pretty good. What do you guys think?

Answer
If it has symmetry and flow to it, then I am all for chest pieces. They're super cute, highly unique, and very visible. I love seeing women with art!

Where can i find some decent tattoo designs for girls?

fangs.

I'm planning on getting a tattoo but i don't know what i wanna get it of. I've been searching on the internet for nice designs (for a small-ish tattoo) but i can't find any. Anyone know any websites?

Answer
You know as great as the web is--IT IS NOT THE ONLY PLACE TO LOOK FOR TATTOO IDEAS!

The first place to look is yourself. What do you like? What is in your house or in your room that you just love and have loved forever? Were you a cheerleader from elementry school through college? Does your Grandmother wear a family birthstone crown that you love, but will go to you Cousin because she was the first grandchild? Have you ever walked into a fine store loved the unique design of an atomizer? Opened a book and thought an illustration really could jump off the page.

It's a big world--find those things that you love, that make you special, to have inked.

Tattoo design ideas ?

youtube tattoo designs for girls on Loving these Tattoo designs...
youtube tattoo designs for girls image
Q. I want to complete my sleeve and im not to sure what to get. The sleeve incorporates a lot of old school designs. Like a mans ruin theme. I have all these on my forearm and i want one big piece on my upper arm and then have it all linked together. I was thinking of maybe a old school pin-up girl piece. Any thoughts on other things that might go well along this theme ?

Answer
My thoughts are, change your plans and do not permanently deface your body with tattoos. There is a big cost to getting a tattoo, and it is far more than wasted money. The true cost of a tattoo is a lifetime of regret. Most regret it within 5 years. There is an 80% chance you will regret it in your lifetime. The regret starts after you start to notice how people react to you. Many people will look at you with disgust, for tattoos are offensive to many, many people. I suggest you do not get a tattoo. A tattoo is little better than a cartoonâyou canât get a good quality drawing on the human skin. It will deface your body like ugly graffiti defaces a public building. There are serious practical reasons not to get tattooed. Your chances of getting a good job will be greatly diminishedâmost companies will not hire you since your tattoo will be seen as offensive to other workers. The majority of western people get tattooed when young and their decision making process is not yet matured. Youth tends to be impulsive. Young people are still developing and they need to be very careful in making important, permanent decisions. The reasons young people get tattooed are not mature (i.e. they want people to notice them, they want to pretentiously âhonorâ someone in a way that will attract notice, they want to pretentiously present some âdeepâ quotation on their skin in the hope that people will think they too are âdeepâ, they are rebelling against their parents or society, they are conforming to what they think are social norms, they are unable to see ahead and view the negative results of their actions, etc.) If you want to see the true level of cultural development for tattoos and other body modifications, look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwOXCmjTsvs In a large sense, nothing illustrates the degeneration of western culture more than the entertainment industry encouraging impulsive youth to permanently disfigure themselves in order to âexpress themselvesâ. But such is the power of suggestion that more and more young people are buying into this Hollywood lie that tattoos are a cutting edge way to âexpressâ yourself. But that is so not true. You should express yourself with your words and actions, not by inking graffiti onto your living flesh, in a manner offensive to both man and God, who instructed us through His prophet Moses: "Do not cut your bodies⦠or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORDâ Leviticus 19:28. The message you will actually convey with a tattoo is âI am foolishâ, âI make bad decisionsâ, âI have no sense of right and wrong,â âI follow fadsâ and âI am unemployableâ. I am telling you this because I care about you and I want to help you avoid a bad mistake. Good luck to you in your life. But do not get tattooed. Tattoos are permanent. You can not take them back

Reasonable tattoo ideas?

Hey I am going to be turning 18 soon, and am fairly muscled. Some friends of mine (boys and girls) said that I would look good in a tattoo. I was wondering if anyone new some good traditional designs, or half sleeve designs (I think that's what they are called. It's where there is a sleeve tattoo only on your upper arm.) I don't want any of those stupid forehead tattoos. Upper-back and arm tattoos are mostly what I am looking for. At one point I thought subdermal implants would bee cool like a very small star on my wrist, until I looked up on YouTube how they do them haha. Tattoos that would fit me are intense ones, ones that have music (guitar), or artistic and complex designs, even traditional designs. I also have one last question. I have been doing a lot of research and watching many tattooing videos, and noticed that there is substantial bleeding when the tattoo artist uss his first tool. I am not worried about pain, just curious if there are two items a tattoo artist uses. Lastly do tattoo artists generally let you go in and inspect where they will work their art in advance, as well as their portfolio? I really don't want to end up with a turd on my arm...

Thank you so much
I would also like a pain level on area from 1-10 like I heard that your sides and side/middle abdominal hurt. I heard it hurts even more when you have visible abdomens.

Answer
Ah, the 'I just turned 18!' tat. I've got one myself and, granted, what I'm about to tell you will sound kind of hypocritical, but whatever you choose to get, START SMALL. A week after my 18th birthday I trotted down to my local tattoo shop and got a HUGE chest piece done. Set me back over $500 (come to find out, the place is a rip, however, their work is VERY good) Now that I'm a bit older and would like like more tats, the only thing I regret about what I have (stars swirled in the electro-magnetic spectrum across my chest) is the placement and how big it is. Now, when I consider adding to it, my new artist (actually, a friend of mine who just happens to tattoo) and I have to compromise.

That being said, do whatever feels right.
1. When checking out an artist or shop, have a look at the artist's portfolio and if you're not feeling *super* unique, check out the flash wall. No shame in that and a lot of reputable shops will actually customize the flash art to your liking. Obviously, you're going to check out how clean the place is and how reasonable their prices are, right? Of course. I just got a large puzzle piece, fully colored, across my whole foot for $60. Take that as a reference. The more detail and colors used, the more the tattoo will cost. No shame in comparing shops and artists either. Be patient and find what works for you.

2. Placement- Chest? Walk in the park for me. A lot of people would agree. IF IT IS CLOSE TO THE HEART, THE HEALING PROCESS TENDS TO BE EASIER AND LESS PAINFUL. However, the FURTHER AWAY from the heart, the more intense the pain (especially afterward, if you're a 'bigger' person) during and after, due to circulation. These places (like my foot) have a tendency to heal slower and be prone to infection. FEET, SIDES, UNDERARMS (bicep or forearm, underneath it) ARE TENDER. These areas, to most people HURT. My chest TICKLED compared to my foot.

3. So if you're looking for the 'No pain' zones, try to get something on your bicep or any muscle-y area. For your first tattoo, avoid doing large pieces (think things out a bit, if you want sleeves, you don't want a gigantic piece on your bicep that's going to mess up your sleeve later.) AND, BUY A BOTTLE OF BACTINE (OR STOREBRAND.) Should have Lidocaine in it. Some shops carry it and will either charge you for it or only spray you once if you're hurting. No shame in pain. If you're squirming, that just makes things hard on them, so it's best to bring your own. Spray the area down every 20 mins or so. This won't mess anything up, and I admittedly did it for my foot.

4. As for designs, other than what I said about flash art and checking portfolios, if you find an ACTUAL TATTOO ARTIST (and honestly, you don't want someone who just stencils), they can draw out anything you can dream up. Think of things you know you will never change you mind about. Stars, in my case, are never going to be something I'm going to regret in the future. They're damn stars. Hah. And YES, IF THEY DON'T LET YOU CALL OR COME IN TO INSPECT, DON'T GO THERE. No shop should have anything to hide.

Good luck! I hope to see some awesome work in the future on you and if you have any other tattoo questions, feel free to message me.

you could go with the typical half hearts or something but I suggest you do something more unique, it'll mean more. You could do puzzle pieces, mr/mrs pacman, music notes, something of that sort. Just be creative and try incorporating an interest that you both share.

Also should I put it on my ribs or calf part of my leg? Im a girl so I cant walk around with my shirt off haha

Thanks,i also I am inspired by annie bonny, so if that helps

Answer
I've always been a big fan of the Compass Rose. There are so many designs that you could seriously personalize it... Make it celtic, or old-looking, of whatever ( just google-image compass rose for a ton of ideas ) You can go from simple to really fancy, too.

I'd get it on my ribs. Always thought that calf tattoos on a girl just look clunky. Just an opinion, though. Someone else might feel different.

Also, if someone asks you about it, and you don't feel like giving a long talk about pirates, you can just say "It's to help me find my way...

How should I prepare for a modeling interview?

tattoos for girls top 10 on top tattoo places for girls, best areas for girls tattoo, girls tattoo ...
tattoos for girls top 10 image

Drew B

I have an interview next week with onesource, and possibly Ford agency. It's my first ever interview, and I need to know how to prepare. Here is what I would like to know:
1. What to wear.
2. Take piercings out?
3. Do tattoos hurt your chances.
4. What will the basic modeling interview be like.
I am a male.

Answer
Before you go to One Source, google "one source talent scam" and you'll find more than 200,000 hits including sites like The Rip Off Report, Complaints Board, Modelingscams.com and other legitimate sites. I have no personal experience with One Source, but would never consider meeting with an agency who was cited on The Rip Off Report or Modelscams.com

With regards to Ford, you need to wear something that shows off your figure - skinny jeans or leggings with high heels and a fitted top, or a fitted dress, or mini skirt with fitted top. Take the piercings out. Tattoos can really limit your chances in modeling.

If you are already famous, then you can get tattoos, but if you are unknown, tattoos can affect your chances as it really limits the type of work you can do. Of course it will depend where your tattoos are, but when have you ever seen a model for Chanel or Prada that had tattoos on her arms?

At an agency like Ford, it isn't really an interview. You go to an open call, will be brought into a room with about 10 other girls, will be asked to walk back and forth across the room, then told they will be in touch if they are interested.

If you want to find legitimate agencies, start with this list

-Hostage --> when the two brothers get killed by that psychopath in the end

What are some cute tattoos and peircings for girls?

tattoo designs for the girls on Models With Tattoos
tattoo designs for the girls image

Jessica

I want tattoos designs or ideas please. Or links. I want ones that not many people have and the same with peircings. Or just cute piercings.
I like girly things and my favorite color is pink

Answer
Getting a tattoo idea from a link well is going to be hard to say that not a lot of people have got it. Chances are if there is a link for it someone has replicated it or modified to be more original or either the artist did it verbatim as the design that exists on a public platform such as the web. I'd suggest that you go to a professional, clean, sterile, and reputable shop and take a look at the artist's portfolios and maybe sit down and talk with them and get them to draw you up something nice and original that is for you. You could be more detailed in what you like and it would been easier to help you. Giving the things that you like help a lot more than being so broad about you liking girly things and that depends on the persons individual concept of what is girl and what isn't. It could differ from person to person. But I think you would be pleased to go to a shop and get someone to talk with you and draw you something up cute that you love and that expresses what you want it to.

Good Luck with your Endeavors

How bad is the pain on your shoulder?

Kate

OK I am planning all my tattoos out in advance. I want to get a pink daisy for my mom on the front of my shoulder like by the clavicle bone like this LOCATION NOT THIS TATTOO. (People sometimes don't read the whole details, sorry) http://www.uktattoostudios.co.uk/women/butterfly-shoulder-womens-girls-tattoos-tattoo-designs-pictures-gallery3.jpg

not going behind my shoulder just on the front.

Answer
A piece like that for the most part will not be bad at all. But generally when getting up on your shoulder closer to your neck the pain greatly intensifies. Closer to your should the less amount of pain.

Best advise is to not worry about the pain. It is all tolerable. Just decide on your tattoo and where you think it will best fit.

What's the least painful place to get a tattoo if you have a low pain tolerance?

tattoo ideas for girls arm on Tattoo Equipment: tattoo japanese arm girls sexy tattoo, body tattoo ...
tattoo ideas for girls arm image

Katie

I know you're all going to be like well don't get one if you're worried about the pain, but shut up. Seriously. It's something I badly want and WILL tolerate pain, I just would like the least amount possible. Me and my sister are getting small, matching tattoos because we are extremely close being only a year apart. I'm a very thin, short girl for my age and I don't have a lot of fat on me. Only my thighs and arms have fat. We were thinking about the waist. NOT hip and NOT ribs but the squishy part in between. And I did the pinch test and it was alright for pain. I just need some input on this because I haven't gotten one before. I've been able to tolerate the pain of several piercings, but I know tattoos are completely different.
We're getting SMALL tattoos so would that make the pain less and quick?
I'm just terrified of pain but I want this so bad because I care about my sister and she's been waiting for me to feel ready enough to get one. I'm totally fine with the idea of it being permanent, trust me. I have no problem with it. just PAIN. I probably sound like a wimp (which I am) but this is something I really want to do.

Answer
Any place on your body that is more fatty is usually less painful. Any place near bone is usually the worst. For example, I have thigh tattoos that were not very painful, and ankle and back tattoos that hurt like hell. But if you have a low pain tolerance, consider getting one tattoo that you really love, because there aren't a tone of areas associated with little pain.

What happens if new tattoo is untreated for 3 day?

Destany En

Got my tattoo lettering 4 days ago on my arm. I didn't put nothing on it. There is ugly scab a little soreness and swelling. I washed my tattoo1 day ago. I recently put some bacitracin on it. Will i be alright? Does the tattoo area usually becomes hard and tight? It' s not a lot of pain just a little soreness and swelling.

Answer
Not a problem, I've got some work healing up right now. My girl is a tattoo artist as well, and she's in the process of relining and recoloring my work, with her own touches thrown in. But what I was gonna say is this. Every tattoo artist we know heals their work up dry. You have no idea how many tattoos are screwed up every year, by well-intentioned aftercare that really isn't necessary in the first place. People glop stuff on 'em to 'help' heal 'em up, but what happens a lot is they get deprived of the air they need to heal well, plus the scab tends to soften prematurely. Which makes it prone to coming off too early. And these people wonder why they get little bumps on their tattoos. Healing them up dry is the way to go. But don't take my word for it. Call your artist, and ask him about dry healing. He'll tell you. The body is it's own best healer, always has been. Won't hurt a thing. Take care.

I want to get a couple of tattoo's, never had one before. I wanted to get some kinda design for resimble my kids then I wanted to get my boyfriends signiture, small, somewhere on me. Where should I put them, I want them as soon as possible but I can not figure out where to put them.

Any idea's for a tattoo to get for my three kids, I was thinking stars or a butterfly with three stars around it or something. Help please.

Answer
places: top of foot, inside ankle, outside ankle, behind ear, back of neck, back bottom right side....

what to get: well first off i'd stear clear from getting any names permanant on ur body.. but if ur just DEAD SET on getting something about ur bf on u then maybe go for a symbol or animal or something along those lines.
EX) my cuz wantd something of her bf on her and we talkd her out of doing a name (thank goodness) and she went with a bear claw and used the middle of the claw as a CD...because his nickname since childhood is bear and hes a dj. and they broke up!! (not saying that is going to happn 2u) and now she atleast has a beutiful design on her body rather than a name she'd be ashamed of!!!

and for your three kids...hmm...stars?? well evn though they are popular now...are they still going to b as popular in 10-15yrs?? butterflies?? overly popular...try to think of something original... what do ur kids like? what are their names? their fav flowers?? what about three different flowers intertwined at the stem?? just keep searching for something and try to make it original as possible...wouldnt u want something permanantly on ur body to be meaningful rather than popularly cute??

anyways GOODLUCK with everything!!!!!!!!

What was popular in the 90's?

Q. Im doing a project and i need to know what things were really popular in the 90's (ie: overalls)

It can include anything

Thankss!

Answer
The 1990s in popular culture is typically referred to as the decade of "anti-fashion". In reality, anti-fashion was only one of many trends in fashion in the 1990s. The fashion of the 1990s was characterized by minimalist styles, and many overlapping, often contradictory trends. The most significant event was the rise of grunge fashion in 1992. In the late 1990s there was a move away from grunge. Retro clothing inspired by the 1960s and 1970s was popular for much of the 1990s.

In the early 90's Reebok released basketball sneakers that had a pump up mechanism on the front tongue of the shoe. This little ball/pump allowed one to inflate air into the cushion of shoe or release the air out. This shoe became very popular despite the retail price of $175, which was very expensive for sneakers at the time. The shoe first stepped into the spotlight when NBA superstar Dee Brown pumped his pair up before competing in the NBA slam dunk contest...he would go on and win the contest that year.

This fad was popular with high school and college students. Many just bleached their tips. This fad really caught on in the mid 90's and continued into 2000.

Tattoos
Formerly a preference for gang members, jailbirds and other rebels, tattoos are now so common that even the Spice Girls have them. You used to get a tattoo to stand out, now you get one to blend in.

Piercings
Getting your tongue, belly button, eyebrow, nipple, etc. pierced was the popular thing to do to show your "coolness."
learn more

Overalls
Although popular in the 1970's, in the early 1990's teens wore their overalls in two ways: they wore their overalls with a belt, and let the 'front flap' and 'back straps' hang straight down. The other way was to only hook together one side of the overall straps, and leave the opposite side open. The popular over-all styles were: light blue; or gray stonewashed; overalls, with lots of zippers and metal buttons down the sides.

Fanny Packs
Purses that buckle on to the waist. Very popular in the early 1990. Now it's considered to be a fashion faux pas.

Rachel Haircut
Many women in the 1990's starting cutting their hair in the same hair style as Jennifer Aniston's character 'Rachel' on the popular television sitcom Friends.

do you think that this tattoo would fit nicely on either my right or left pec of my chest??

http://www.flickr.com/photos/castrovalva/40225109/

yes it does have meaning to me so dont lecture me please.

but do you think this would fit okay? or will the details turn into a blod over time? the tat will look slightly different and the elephants trunk will be hanging instead of facing upwards.

Answer
I think it would look better on your arm because of the longness of the picture. I am not sure if you are scaling it to fit only on your pec, which could work. The best advice would come from an experienced, reputable tattoo artist who will have experience with what happens to designs over time. As a girl thinking about looking at a chest with this tattoo...the long legs are kinda creepy.

feminine elephant tattoo ideas?

T

Since I was a little girl, I have always loved elephants. Well actually I was OBSESSED with elephants. I have hundreds of elephants ornaments etc, and everything in my bedroom used to have an elephant on it... my quilt, my towels, my computer, all over my walls, clothes, photo frames, even a basketball! I'm 18 now, and I can't say I am as obsessed, but I still do have a great love for elephants. I've been thinking for a few years now of getting an elephant tattoo, and have been looking at elephant meanings and only just found out what elephants actually mean. Strength, power, wisdom, dignity, good luck, good fortune, and so much more. And when I think back, I realise, that after taking down all the elephants from my room, I lost a lot of these things. Which just makes me want to get the tattoo even more, I want to have the symbol on me forever, so these things can be close to me everywhere I go, for the rest of my life.

I'm just having trouble finding a design that I really like. I'm wanting to get it fairly large. Down my rib cage. I'm thinking on the left side, so that it is close to my heart.

There's one photo that i've come across which I really liked. It's this here: http://tinypic.com/r/5wrkj/3
I really like the design on the elephant, and have tried finding more similar but I don't know what this design is called, so don't know what to search for.

If anyone could please help me find some more similar designs that would be great.
I want it to be quite feminine, not sure if I want colour or not, so some pictures of both would be nice.

And please no silly comments like "don't get a tattoo, what will you say to you grand kids blah blah blah"
I actually have been looking at the dali elephants, and I do really like that one on the woman's back. But do those elephants have the same meaning? if not.. what do they mean???

Answer
The piece that you have there is actually really nice. I love line work pieces, the simplicity of them. I know that this isn't exactly what you're looking for because it's by a surrealist artist named Salvador Dali (surely you've heard of him, ha) so it is of course not all that realistic. But it's a popular chose by people who get dedication pieces to him, and I thought it was worth showing you:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/photoboothparty/3388741947/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/45087628@N06/4159040350/

Even if it's not exactly what you're looking for, I hope that you like it. Good luck finding exactly what you are looking for for your tattoo. :)

Edit: Honestly, I don't know if they mean anything different in particular. But you should research it if you are concerned about it meaning something else. The elephants make appearances in a couple of his paintings, so you'd just have to research it a little bit.

not going behind my shoulder just on the front.

Any ideas for a feminine celtic tattoo to put on the back of neck?

LAH

I'm looking for some ideas for celtic tattoos and want to put it right along the hairline on the back of my neck. I can't really find any pictures or designs that show them on the back of girls' neck. I'm not sure if I want a clover (seems so cliche or maybe I haven't found the right style) or if I want a celtic knot. Any ideas??

Answer
Maybe some other type of flower, such as a thistle (nice purple and green). Or maybe create a trinity knot with roses or some other flowers? Just some thoughts...

What do you think of small tattoos on girls?

Christine

Im only 14 but im considering getting a tattoo or two when im older. I want one of an arabic symbol for a quote i like, two words, on the outside of my foot below and behind my ankle bone. (But not on my achilles!! ) And i maybe one on my ribs where my bra would cover it, that says "new and improved" in cursive. Whats your opinion? What do they feel like? What do you think of tattoos in general?

Answer
I like (and plan on getting more) small, simple, meaningful tattoos. I already have one, which I got on my ribs, just underneath the bra line. It makes me feel sexier, because no one can tell I have a tattoo unless I want to show them + no one would really expect me to have a tattoo, everyone was surprised when I told them :)

Why do tattoos have to be so addicting?

I got my first one in January and second in April. They are both frogs because I love frogs. I was looking at my frog book today, and I have a good idea of what my next tattoo is going to be. I don't want to have ink all over my body, but I just love getting them.

Answer
Wow, after reading about all the losers who get stupid crap tattooed on them I really had to write in. I really shouldn't say that, though, because I have a few tattoos on me that aren't the most original or meaningful, but I've progressed.

OK- I have a total of 5 tattoos. I will recount the stories of them.

When I was younger I never, ever, thought that I would get a tattoo. I thought they were dumb, and only for people who were on a lower level than myself. Then I went to college. After attending the University of Wisconsin Madison for a semester, I wanted a tattoo. Probably to fit in, or feel different. Not really any deep spiritual meaning or needing. I thought for a few months about what I wanted, and came to a decision. I wanted a Phoenix with the word âInvictusâ under it. Invictus is Latin for unconquerable. My wife, girlfriend at the time, had gone to a shop that she said was good. The Blue Lotus is very professional and hospital level clean. I went in and the artist who my wife was tattooed by wasnât there, but I wanted this tattoo today, so I settled for one of the other artists. He told me he couldnât do the phoenix design I had wanted the size I wanted, so I decided to just go with the lettering. The stencil went on my right shoulder and the process began. About ten minutes later it was over. I had my very first tattoo, small as it may be. I paid the man $50, and was on my merry way. I took immaculate care of it, washing and putting lotion on it.

Now, tattooing had me. I was content with what I had, but I really wanted the phoenix. So about six or seven months later I decided to go in and get it. This time bigger and on my back centered between my shoulder blades. This time I did get the artist my wife had gone to. Rich, is great. Very good attitude and very willing to work with you to get what you want. I only wanted to spend $200 so he sized it accordingly. Later I found out that he made it bigger so that it would look better on my back. This is a true mark of an artist and not a businessman. He was willing to take a hit in his pocket just to make sure that it would look better. This tattoo was considerably more painful than my last ten-minute experience. I took about 2.5 hours. The spine and either side of the spine in the soft tissue are very painful areas. We finished and it looked great. I shook Richâs hand and knew I would be back.

My next tattoo was a tribal piece. Yes, I like almost every other tattooed human on the planet has a tribal piece. It covered my left shoulder with broad sweeping lines. It was a much more pleasant spot to be tattooed than my back. I really have no good reason for getting this tattoo other than the fact that I liked the way it looked and I wanted to get another tattoo. It cost me $150, and Rich was now my official tattoo artist.

My next tattoo was born of loss and grief. When my grandfather died, I wanted something to remember him and my grandmother who had passed a year before. I told Rich my idea, an angel with wings spread and hands out, standing on a block with my last name and the dates they died. We spent a few hours drawing it up and tweaking it to my satisfaction. It was BIG, about 13 inches tall, six inches across and it was going right below my phoenix. I wasnât looking forward to another back tattoo, but I was determined to create a lasting memorial to my grandparents. It took about 2 hours and 15 minutes. It was very, very painful. I think your frame of mind has a great deal to do with the amount of pain you feel. I was still upset about my grandparents, and the lower back is even worse than the upper. I have the utmost respect for girls who get tattoos on their lower back. It isnât a walk in the park. By the end I was almost in tears, but then Rich said he was done. I was g! lad, and was ecstatic when I looked in the mirror. It was amazing. Rich was very pleased with how it came out as well.

So after a rather painful experience I took a bit of a break from getting tattooed, but sooner or latter that tattoo bug bites you again. Now I was getting serious about tattooing, so I wanted a back piece. A back piece is a full back tattoo. I had an idea of what I wanted and how to incorporate the phoenix and the angel into one big piece, so I sat down with Rich. We spent a couple hours one day and the a couple the next and came up with a really cool idea. It already looked like the phoenix was rising out of the angel, so we decided to have a run down, burning city scene down by the angel, and a blast wave of light and color all around the phoenix. A banner over the top with the last two lines of the poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley would frame everything up. âI am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.â

All told I think we spent a total of 25 hours on my back broken up in two or three hour sessions. As far as the pain issue goes, it increases as you go towards the center and down on the back. Also when I became engaged to my wife, half way through the back piece, we got matching tattoos. The phrase âlove conquers allâ in Latin was tattooed on our left arms right above the shirt line.

This brings us to my current project. I love tattoos, and I hated that no one could see mine. I had a f***ing back piece and no one in my Mechanical Engineering classes could see it. No one on the street knew how important tattooing was to me. So I mad a huge decision, I was going to get a sleeve. (A tattoo piece that covers an entire arm, cuff to shoulder.) I chose my right arm since only lonely Invictus was scrawled on the top of my shoulder. The idea for the tattoo came from the Herbert Draper painting, The Lament for Icarus. Rich made a few changes to it, and we began. The arm is so much less painful than the back. These sessions are much easier than my back piece sessions. So, Iâm about 17 hours into my sleeve, and have about 13 more to go.

Here is a summary of what I have learned in my tattooing experiences:

1. Bigger is better. They are not just trying to make more money off of you. The parts of your body are bigger than you think, and putting a one inch by one inch tattoo in the middle of a sea of skin isnât going to look as good as a nice big image that fills up the space. Also, the artist will be able to add more detail to a large tattoo.

2. It will cost you some money. Iâve spent thousands on my tattoos, but in the long run, they are cheaper than anything else youâll buy. They last forever!

3. Odds are youâll want to get another after youâre first. I donât know why, but everyone Iâve ever talked to says that tattoos are addicting.

4. DONâT GET FLASH. Think of something original and your own. Have a general idea and then have your artist design something for you. They will appreciate it, and then youâll have something no one in the world has. Make your tattoo have some sort of meaning, not just âI want that oneâ

5. All the other crap everyone else always says: research your artist, make sure they are sterile, blah blah, after-care, blah blah blah.

So there you have it, a tattoo addicts confession. I hope you have a good experience with tattoos, and I hope you come to love and respect them as much as I do.

Where should I get this tattoo + BQ?

Jadedoe

I want to get "Lift up your eyes discouraged one" tattood on myself somewhere, but I don't know where. What'd be a good place? I'm up for any suggestions.

BQ: What do you think an arm sleeve on a girl? I've been thinking about one. And I figured that way I could put my "Lift up your eyes discouraged one" somewhere in there so it wouldn't just be I don't know. There.
I know it should have a comma. I wasn't paying attention to punctuation when I posted this and I just wanted people to know what it would say. And I wasn't planning on working around it, I was suggesting maybe I'd wait til I got the sleeve and get the lettering inserted with the other designs? I don't know.

Answer
Hi there!

Text is not a great idea for a tattoo. It works against the flow of your body and the result is unflattering. Here is an excellent article that objectively and intelligently explains why: http://seppukutattoo.blogspot.com/2012/02/letter-of-law-laws-for-lettering-and.html

It is definitely worth the read - even if you decide to still go with the text tattoo, you will at least be informed.

As to your question - sleeves look awesome on anyone, as long as it's good quality work. If you do get the lettering tattoo and you plan to get a sleeve done, don't get the lettering on your arm. I say this because it will limit your design options and essentially interfere with the sleeve design process - so if you want the best sleeve possible, leave your arm entirely blank for now. Trust me. Working around existing tattoos always negatively impacts the final result.

So, if you still want the lettering tattoo, I'd recommend getting it in an area that you wouldn't want larger work done - this way it won't use up prime real estate or interfere with future plans. Also, there should be a comma between the words 'eyes' and 'discouraged'. Reads much better that way.

Hope that helps and best of luck!

My best friend passed away two years ago on friday from Cancer. I'm having a real hard time with her death and wanting to get a tattoo for some type of remembrance. I want the tattoo on the inside of my wrist but not sure what i should get. I really like the infinity symbol, feathers, hearts, and the birds flying away. Can someone please help me with figuring out what my tattoo should look like that I'm getting this Tuesday.

Answer
I would get something that symbolizes her, or your friendship. Personally, balloons floating away have always reminded me of loss, yet still are optimistic. You could do a cluster of balloons in black/grey, then have one balloon floating away from the bunch in her favorite color.
You could also have her name or "rip -her name" underneath, or even have her balloon be made out of words, so you could have the balloon made of "rip- her name" and some of other small cute, forever in my heart/etcetc.
If she had an animal she was obsessed with you could do that, or something along those lines.
I got a tattoo for my dad that's simply "RIP Daddy", and I love it, and will eventually add an old school rose to it I think.
I don't personally like the infinity symbol because a million teenage girls have started getting them, lol, but if it's what you want definitely go for it, and you could get her name written in it, or friends forever, etcetc.
If you're really indecisive don't feel bad about rescheduling the appt., you want to make sure youre 100% on what you want.
Love the meaning of your tattoo, I'm sure it'll be beautiful :)

Where's a good spot for a chinese symbol tattoo?

'

I'm getting my first tattoo for my 16th birthday (Legal in my state) and I'm getting one like this http://www.tattoos-all.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/chinese-love-symbol-tattoos-designs.jpg except that's the symbol for friendship and instead of friendship I;m getting the one for "baby girl". I want the flowers like in that pic. except I want them purple.

Where should I put it? NOT on the back of my neck. I know a lot of people with it there. My sister is now 24 and she got the symbol for "bi*ch" on her wrist when she was 16.

If I didn't put it on my wrist where would be another good spot for it?

Answer
Your ankle or top of your foot might work, its a small tattoo and you want to find a decent space that would look good with a smallish tattoo on it. :) Good luck! Its beautiful!

What would be good matching tattoos for couples?

Evelyn B

my boyfriend and i want to get matching tattoos . or something that completes the other. such as lock and key. any idea?

Answer
Ohhhh matching tattoos, such a dilemma. My boyfriend in high school really wanted to get matching tattoos... then we broke up a couple months later. Dodged THAT bullet! haha.

I realize that the idea of matching tattoos are cute and romantic... But just make sure you realllly think about it before you take the plunge. A tattoo is forever (sometimes, a boyfriend is not).

But, if you've really thought it out and you know you'll be with him forever here are some cool ideas:

-Half a heart on the side of your rib, like below your armpit. (It's cute and when you hug your "heart" will be complete. It's also a good choice because it's in a very discrete place, so if you ever do break-it off it's not too noticeable. It's also a good location for future job interviews =]

-Another fun idea is maybe a simple number that is important to you both. For example, my current boyfriend of six years and I started dating on January 10. So 10 has always just kind of been "our number". You could place it on your wrist, or anywhere really.

-Lyrics to "your song" Another simple idea.

-A cool quote in another language like Victoria and David have.âI am my belovedâs, my beloved is mineââ in Hebrew.

-If you're both really into music I think one of the coolest ideas for couple's tatts is to have the girl get the treble clef and the boy get the bass clef inked in the same location. It's something cute together, but also cute if you should ever break up.

I think the most important thing here is to remember to get something that means something to you individually as well as to you as a couple. Hope I've given you some ideas, or some ideas to jump start better ideas! Good luck! =]

I don't like overly cheesy romance stories. I enjoyed the Twilight series. I like novels that feature a witty main character, something funny but not cheesy-hilarious.

Answer
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Twilight is a GREAT love story between a regular girl and a really great/good vamire. The other books in the series are, New Moon and Eclipse.

I also LOVED Bass Ackwards and Belly Up by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain. The sequel comes out in April. It's about 4 friends. 3 of them decide to skip college and follow their dreams.
For readers of the New York Times bestselling Gossip Girl and A-List series, here is a smart and highly commercial first novel about four best friends who, after graduating high school, decide to postpone the standard college route to pursue their creative dreams. Harper Waddle, Sophie Bushell, and Kate Foster are about to commit the ultimate suburban sin--bailing on college to each pursue their dreams: write the next Great American Novel, make it as a Hollywood actress, and backpack around the world. Middlebury-bound Becca Winsberg is convinced her friends have gone insane...until they remind her she just might have a dream of her own. So what if their lives are bass ackwards and belly up? They'll always have each other. Harper is going to be the next Jane Austen. Or Sylvia Plath. Or Plum Sykes. Figuring out which should be easy. It?s living with the lie she told her three best friends that?s going to be hard.Kate doesn?t know exactly what she wants. But whatever it is, she won?t find it at Harvard. Maybe the answer is in Paris, or Athens? or anywhere Kate can be someone besides the girl with perfect grades, perfect hair, and the perfect boyfriend.Sophie is a star. She?s already got the looks, the talent, and a list of demands for her dressing room. Now that she?s wrangled a furnished guesthouse in Beverly Hills, it?s only a matter of time before she?s discovered. Unless she isn?t.Becca is dysfunctional. At least, her family is. Which is why she can?t wait to flee the drama and get to college. But Becca?s friends know she needs more than a spot on the Middlebury ski team and a cozy dorm room. They know she needs to fall in love.Dreams are complicated. They almost never turn out like you imagine?they almost always change. Sometimes, they change you.

You should also check out The Insiders series by J. Minter. It's sort of about the rich boys and girls in New York. Kind of like a Gossip Girl thing.

You should also read the Gallagher Girls series. It's about a girl who goes to a school for spies.
The first one is "I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have to Kill You" by Ally Carter The Sequel is Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy.
Summary for first one:
Cammie Morgan is a student at the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women, a fairly typical all-girls school???that is, if every school taught advanced martial arts in PE and the latest in chemical warfare in science, and students received extra credit for breaking CIA codes in computer class.& nbsp; The Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses but it??'s really a school for spies. & nbsp; & nbsp; Even though Cammie is fluent in fourteen languages and capable of killing a man in seven different ways, she has no idea what to do when she meets an ordinary boy who thinks she??'s an ordinary girl.& nbsp; & nbsp; Sure, she can tap his phone, hack into his computer, or track him through town with the skill of a real ???pavement artist??????but can she maneuver a relationship with someone who can never know the truth about her?& nbsp; Cammie Morgan may be an elite spy-in-training, but in her sophomore year, she??'s on her most dangerous mission???falling in love.

They become best friends instantly. But Becca wants to shake things up at school and look for "others of our kind.,."and decides to form the Queen Geek Social Club. The thing is, this guy Fletcher Berkowitz keeps nosing around, asking lots of questions about the Club. He's cute, and interesting, and possibly likes Shelby. Therefore, she must torture him.
