Ive always been a classy girl, but my dad passed away when i was a teen on my birthday, and i want a tattoo to remeber him by, i want it in a place that can be hidden and i dotn want it large, also not a picture of him, can anyone think of some words, or symoblttic things, or any ideas? Id really appericate it, thanks!

you could even do a really pretty design with his name and/or in memory of with the dates...

my dad also passed when i was a teen...and ive been wanting to get a tattoo in memory of him...he had an orginal tattoo on his arm and i thought about gettin that but makin it smaller and theres a perfect place for his name and dates on it...i just want to go to the guy who drew it for him to do it for me...and i would stick that on my left shoulder blade because his tattoo was on the upper part of his left arm.
and my step-dad just passed last year, and i plan to get a tattoo in memory of him...im having my boyfriend draw me something with his name or nickname from me with the dates...i think its gonna be a pink rose (pink was his favorite color and he liked but always complained about my moms rose bush) with some viens or something in it too....my boyfriend is a great artist so i have no doubt it will turn out great...
my only hold up is getting to the perfect person to tattoo me cause i dont want mistakes.

also, make sure before you just let anyone tattoo you that you check out their work and everything because you dont want them to mess it up not only will it ruin it it will ruin the memory that you wanted to keep with it.

as for places you could do possibly on your back, your upper leg, or neck...those to me are the most hidden places...or maybe even your foot...it depends on size too....

First of all, 16 year old girls should not be getting tattoos. Second of all, moms who allow there 16 year old girls to get tattos should have their brain examined.

You'll regret it. You are only 16 and have no idea who you are yet. You should live and learn a little more, then oneday, when you have a better idea of your identity, I say go ahead and get a tattoo. I mean, 10 years from now when you have Hannah Montana or something related to High School musical tattooed on your body you are going to feel and look like a fool.

ok these are the rules of a tattoo you won't ever regret.

1. make sure it means a lot to you.
2. let the artist help draw you up something. so it's his/hers and your own design.
3. simple isn't always the best way to go.
4. make sure it's in a place you won't get tired of seeing.
5. make sure you really want that design.
6. make sure you really want a tattoo
(these aren't in order but they don't have to be because they all should be followed) :)

side story...i want a wrist tattoo but waited and got my second idea first...reason why i did that is ...the wrist is somewhere i will be seeing all the time and if i get tired of the design then it would be annoying...so what i did was put the picture that i printed on my computer monitor so i see it everyday. after a year im still not tired of it. it has so much meaning...like 10 different things...again make sure it's got meaning to it. so when i get my second tattoo i know for sure i really want it. good luck! i hope i helped :)

upper arm tattoos (girls)?

i am considered a femme lesbian.. i have a tattoo that covers my chest and wraps the front of my should then comes down my arm about halfway to my elbow..
its full of bright colors... its VERY girly... i get complements all the time...
on my other arm i have a heart locket right above my elbow, my partner has a key in the same place..
still we get complemented on it all the time..
i think when i woman dresses formal, in a sleeveless type dress, and they have tattoos showing ITS SEXY as hell...

Q. I was recently in a tough time in my life. Just as I felt like I was at the end of my road, a total stranger told me these words. "Always move forward". I don't know why, but I took those words into deep thought and since that day I kept pushing myself in the path I wanted to go.

Why don't you guys pick out something that has meaning for the both of you? Tattoos aren't necessarily appropriate just for girls or guys, I have some bats tattooed on me, a robot, and it really doesn't matter. Get something you both love, who cares if it's not girly. As long as you like it, you can tell everybody else where they can stick it.

One of my favorite tattoos that I've seen girls have is a dream catcher tattoo, mainly because it never looks tacky and I think anyone can pull it off. Also you can have it anywhere, big or small.

So I really like tattoos & piercings. I'm 17 & I have my septum, bellybutton & upper ear pierced.

When I'm 18 (in December) I really want to get my tongue pierced & a portrait on my forearm.

My parents are very religious, conservative people. I don't believe in god & I don't attend church. I'm a virgin & I smoke pot occasionally.

I just feel If I get tattoos & piercing they won't accept me. They're always talking about how"trashy" they are & I'll look like a "hoe" idk what to do... I'm scared.

I hide my piercings now but someday I'll have to show them, how will I start to reveal all this?

If you want a tattoo, get it. I'm also in your situation. I have both nostrils pierced, stretched ears, cartilage, septum, and I'm getting my belly pierced. I plan on getting a lot of tattoos and I also feel they won't accept me. My parents aren't hardcore Christians or anything, they don't attend church very often, but my mom doesn't like tattoos and my dad always goes by what my mom says, yet he has tattoos himself. When you're 18, you can legally get a tattoo without parent permission. Get the tattoo in a easy to hide area, such as your back, legs, stomach, ect. You can easily hide those with clothing. After awhile of having it, you can eventually show it to them. There's not really anything they can do about it after you have it. They should accept you for you, and yeah they might be mad at first but they will probably get over it. Also, having tattoos and/or piercings does not make you trashy or a hoe, and don't listen to that person up there. I think tattoos look awesome on old people. You won't regret it, trust me. As long as it's not something stupid and you did it professionally and took care of it right.

If you get a tattoo on your hip (being a girl) when you get pregnant or if you get bigger in the future it may stretch it or you may get stretch marks threw the tattoo. That happened to my sister. My advise get it smaller and higher up or put on a place that wont stretch or get bigger like your upper back or feet or neck or hands etc.

dont get it on your arm, the only arm tattoos on girls that look good are actual full sleeves in my opinion, why not get it on your ribs or a hip or an ankle (inside or out). depends on how big you want it as well.

Guys: opinion on a small rib tattoo on a girl?

Okay so I'm 18, 5'1" and about 94 lbs so I'm pretty small and don't look very old. For a while I've been considering a small tattoo on my ribs, kind of close to under my breast but more on the side on the ribs. It will just be one straight line and it will say ×ª×ª×××¨× ×¢× ×¢×¦××× which means "rise above yourself" in Hebrew. I want this quote because I've had a lot of body issues in the past and am very easily influenced by people, so I like that it would be there as a constant reminder to myself to be stronger than my negative emotions.

"it will say ×ª×ª×××¨× ×¢× ×¢×¦××× which means "rise above yourself" in Hebrew." - DON'T. It's NOT what it means. Don't trust things people tell you over the Internet, especially if the consequences are for the most part permanent. What you wrote means "get over yourselves" (plural) and NOT "rise above yourself." So although their meanings are somewhat permanent, in Hebrew it is something that is not always in the nicest context. Very similar to "pull yourself together." I would really suggest that you find an alternative. Maybe something that is more easily translatable to Hebrew.

As for the tattoo itself, I think you're a bit young now. You may like it for a while, but you will come to regret it eventually. Attractiveness-wise, it would really depend on the final look. A single line below your breast area to me would seem like a serious turnoff.

Selling drawings to tattoo parlor??...?

Most tattoo artists are just that, incredibly talented fine artists in their own right. The chances that they will want to buy your drawings for use in their work is slim. think about it.

Put yourself in the tattoo artist's latex gloves for a minute: you are a tattoo artist who creates awesome and original art on people's skin. Your mom said get into accounting, but you stubbornly chose art. And now you hire accountants to keep track of your impressive income from tattooing. And one day in walks this teen-age girls with some sketches she thinks people would like as tattoos. They are ok, but she has no formal art training, nor any idea of what makes a great tattoo. She has not learned color theory or solid design principles in school yet, but hey, she CAN draw pretty well. What do you do?

First, what if one of your designs became a big seller. And let's just imagine you got paid $150-200 for this one drawing. But within the year it is being done in every tattoo parlor in the land, making the cover of Tattoo Art and Ink magazines. Did you get paid enough? Do you get royalties? You sold the copyright for your art for a measly $200 and now the tattoo parlor is building an addition on the money they made using your drawing. . . .

This is a make-believe scenario, mostly because tattoo artist, while they make good money, don't very often make THAT much! It is also pure fiction because a winning design usually evolves out of demand for a specific image, not a particular pice of flash art. And I have yet to see a tattoo artist who is all into using other artist's designs, unless the artist is the one requesting the ink job. I did that once. I supplied the design, he inked. And my next one will be my design too. But I would doubt that i would want a design the artist did not do but was done by some teen who wanted to make a buck.

But, hey, post your sketches. I may be full of it, and you may be onto something. We will never know unless you share. Share a little one, so you are not revealing your entire cache of tattoo flash. But I would not expect you to be able to sell sketches to other practicing artists.

That said, if you find a few friendly parlors who will give you some time, you may get a few pointers from some seasoned artists when you take in your portfolio. Ask if you can see some of their flash and if there is a market for it, they may just give you a leg up toward marketing your drawings. But take in inked and colored pieces . . . a few pale graphite drawings will likely not be as impressive as a few finished color pieces. . . .

I have six tattoos. One on each ankle (two completely different designs), one on each wrist (same design, just facing opposite directions, purposely) and a chest piece that often gets counted as two separate tattoos because of the layout.

Every single one of my tattoos was done because I liked the art, and it has some special meaning to me. My ankle tattoos remind me of good times spent in Finland, and of the band that my best friends and I bonded over. The gears on my wrists are for my love of all things Steampunk and the Steampunk community. The hummingbirds on my chest piece are in loving memory of a dearly departed elderly relative who loved hummingbirds.

I plan on many more in the future. A Steampunk airship down my side. A pin up girl on my thigh (I love the pinup style). Lyrics to a song very near and dear to my heart down my other side. Something Boondock Saints related as soon as I decide what and where. A Golden Snitch for Harry Potter because I love the books and my friends and I have spent many long hours enjoying those books and movies together....the list goes on and on...

I was 19 when I got my first tattoo, 20 when I got my second, 22 when I got my third and fourth, and 23 when I got my chest piece. I'm 24 now so I'm about due for a new one....

i had the same problem, i thought about getting a pin up girl up my side. (seen on Miami ink)
i would get something smaller but that you can extend and then you can still make it bigger. i.e a celtic design or alot of people are having stars at the moment.
maybe it's an idea?!

Help with tattoo design?

I'm so glad you asked this question! I've been designing tattoos for some people for a while now. I think that'd be a BAD A tat! What I would suggest is that you put some vines around it. I'm not sure if your a guy or girl because I can't make out your profile picture but if your a girl, a rose would look good at the bottom where the guns connect and with vines going up from there and wrapping around the guns. Smoke coming out from the top would look pretty cool too. Also some light shadowed pin stripes behind both of the guns with some of the stripes curling around the guns or just behind it. I hoped I helped at least a little. I wish I could see what you decided to do!

Arm tattoo bad idea for a girl?

I have tattoos on both arms, so obviously I like the placement. People are always going to judge you for having a visible tattoo, no matter what the reasoning behind the tattoo. I think it's impossible for well executed, attractive designs to look trashy, but others disagree with me.

i got a tattoo from a disney movie because when i was 3 i walked in on my dad with a knife to my moms throat. he yelled for me to leave i told my sister who was 5 she called police. police told me i could take 1 item with me well at 3 my favorite thing was beauty and beast. since then i have moved around from place to place and have had a really rough life so this movie has really helped me. the enchanted rose means so much to me; thats why i got it. not just because of a movie. you can even google it the story behind the rose is the reason so many have it tattooed

From what I understand, the enchanted rose means time, not love? (i havent seen Beauty and the Beast in a veryyyyy long time lol) um, so i guess since he has till the last petal falls to find someone to love him, or else he stays that way forever, maybe something that represents what saved you. i apologize in advance since i cant think of any philosophical quotes on this but search for strength quotes. I am very sorry for what you witnessed as a child. I can relate more than youd expect. (not with that specific situation, but if you change a knife with something else and me being your older sister then its almost the same). Anyway, think of something like that. I did try to find something to maybe give you for a starting off point but everything is about jesus and god and im not sure your religious stance or if its even relevant. Good luck to you. :)

Low back tattoos are cute on girls with a nice body. If you think about it, it looks better on girls because it is near their butt. Guys love looking at girl's butts. They think it is real hot.
As for where you have the tattoo it all depends on the design and size.
Like a signature of a name or words in cursive will good on the side. designs would look good in the center.

Reasonable tattoo ideas?

Hey I am going to be turning 18 soon, and am fairly muscled. Some friends of mine (boys and girls) said that I would look good in a tattoo. I was wondering if anyone new some good traditional designs, or half sleeve designs (I think that's what they are called. It's where there is a sleeve tattoo only on your upper arm.) I don't want any of those stupid forehead tattoos. Upper-back and arm tattoos are mostly what I am looking for. At one point I thought subdermal implants would bee cool like a very small star on my wrist, until I looked up on YouTube how they do them haha. Tattoos that would fit me are intense ones, ones that have music (guitar), or artistic and complex designs, even traditional designs. I also have one last question. I have been doing a lot of research and watching many tattooing videos, and noticed that there is substantial bleeding when the tattoo artist uss his first tool. I am not worried about pain, just curious if there are two items a tattoo artist uses. Lastly do tattoo artists generally let you go in and inspect where they will work their art in advance, as well as their portfolio? I really don't want to end up with a turd on my arm...

Ah, the 'I just turned 18!' tat. I've got one myself and, granted, what I'm about to tell you will sound kind of hypocritical, but whatever you choose to get, START SMALL. A week after my 18th birthday I trotted down to my local tattoo shop and got a HUGE chest piece done. Set me back over $500 (come to find out, the place is a rip, however, their work is VERY good) Now that I'm a bit older and would like like more tats, the only thing I regret about what I have (stars swirled in the electro-magnetic spectrum across my chest) is the placement and how big it is. Now, when I consider adding to it, my new artist (actually, a friend of mine who just happens to tattoo) and I have to compromise.

That being said, do whatever feels right.
1. When checking out an artist or shop, have a look at the artist's portfolio and if you're not feeling *super* unique, check out the flash wall. No shame in that and a lot of reputable shops will actually customize the flash art to your liking. Obviously, you're going to check out how clean the place is and how reasonable their prices are, right? Of course. I just got a large puzzle piece, fully colored, across my whole foot for $60. Take that as a reference. The more detail and colors used, the more the tattoo will cost. No shame in comparing shops and artists either. Be patient and find what works for you.

2. Placement- Chest? Walk in the park for me. A lot of people would agree. IF IT IS CLOSE TO THE HEART, THE HEALING PROCESS TENDS TO BE EASIER AND LESS PAINFUL. However, the FURTHER AWAY from the heart, the more intense the pain (especially afterward, if you're a 'bigger' person) during and after, due to circulation. These places (like my foot) have a tendency to heal slower and be prone to infection. FEET, SIDES, UNDERARMS (bicep or forearm, underneath it) ARE TENDER. These areas, to most people HURT. My chest TICKLED compared to my foot.

3. So if you're looking for the 'No pain' zones, try to get something on your bicep or any muscle-y area. For your first tattoo, avoid doing large pieces (think things out a bit, if you want sleeves, you don't want a gigantic piece on your bicep that's going to mess up your sleeve later.) AND, BUY A BOTTLE OF BACTINE (OR STOREBRAND.) Should have Lidocaine in it. Some shops carry it and will either charge you for it or only spray you once if you're hurting. No shame in pain. If you're squirming, that just makes things hard on them, so it's best to bring your own. Spray the area down every 20 mins or so. This won't mess anything up, and I admittedly did it for my foot.

4. As for designs, other than what I said about flash art and checking portfolios, if you find an ACTUAL TATTOO ARTIST (and honestly, you don't want someone who just stencils), they can draw out anything you can dream up. Think of things you know you will never change you mind about. Stars, in my case, are never going to be something I'm going to regret in the future. They're damn stars. Hah. And YES, IF THEY DON'T LET YOU CALL OR COME IN TO INSPECT, DON'T GO THERE. No shop should have anything to hide.
