Tattoo questions?

So I want to get a tattoo of this design http://bandobsessedhufflepuff.tumblr.com/post/88489705643 and I have a few questions about it. I'd really appreciate a tattoo artist or someone who has multiple tattoos to help me since I have no experience in this.
First of all, I'm not entirely sure where I want to get it. I'm a girl and I'm pretty sure that plays a factor in where it hurts the most/least. I was thinking about just to the right of my belly button. I was also wondering if the size I'm thinking would be good. I want to get it about the size of a fist and I want to know if that's too big or too small for the design. Thirdly I want to know about how much it would cost to get this tattoo. I really appreciate anyone's insight on this :)

I'll just be honest. That tattoo on your belly button would look ridiculous. In my OPINION, a good place for girls would be on your obliques, rib cage, or upper back.

As for the tattoo, I would recommend something more original with meaning to it. That looks like some tattoo you just found off the internet that you think is cool. I got a tattoo just because it looked cool, but I kind of regret it.

If I were you, I would incorporate your favorite memory into a tattoo, and go to a quality tattoo shop and have them design it for you. So it's original and meaningful to you.

Sleeve Ideas....?

I was thinking about getting a sleeve when I turn 18. I had an idea of it being a music based sleeve. Like on the upper part of my arm put a microphone like what M.Shadows has. A flaming guitar pick somewhere. Music notes. Maybe a flying V guitar. I haven't really put a lot of thought into it because I have 3 more years till I turn 18. Also I wanna know if a sleeve would look good on a girl?

Sleeves on girls are awesome. I'm planning mine now and can't wait to get it done. But the important thing is that you like how the sleeves look and you need to make sure its something you want.

I think you should take all of the ideas and images you have thought about to a tattoo artist when you are ready to get the tattoo. He or she should be able to help you draw up a custom sleeve design and I'm sure it'll be something you love.

Since you are young and you have time to think about it, you can make sure this really is what you want. Good luck.

A guy on here asked where he should get a quote tattood on him, and girls kept responding with which places would be "hot" and what tattoos would be "sexier". I was taken back, people really get tattoos purely because it looks hot? Everyone I knew with them had deeper reasons behind their ink, I have a meaning behind every one of mine. So I was just curious, what are some reasons you or other people you know get ink?

A lot of people get tattoos because they have deep meaning to them, but I don't think that's necessarily a requirement. I have about thirty hours worth of tattoos on my body thus far: some of them I got with deep consideration (a portrait of my grandmother, a bolex camera & quote representing my cousin's and my shared love of the musical RENT) and others I got within 15 minutes of looking at a design (many, many Friday the 13th flash days that included matching pink elephants and Twin Peaks tattoos).
I don't get tattooed because they're deeply meaningful, though some of them are. I get tattooed because I find them aesthetically pleasing and because I like having a visual "map" of my life. To me, tattoos tell a story of where I was at a given moment. Sometimes the meanings changed over time or the tattoos ended up growing into their meaning (I got a blue dragonfly tattoo while in eating disorder treatment only to learn that blue dragonfly was a pro-anorexia message board...whoops), but it's more about, "That pink elephant was the tattoo I got with my roommate on the Friday the 13th that I graduated from college, and the line was so long that I showed up late to my own graduation ceremony" than "Cherry blossoms represent spiritual beauty and I'm coming into my own spiritual awakening" kind of thing for me (though I have a few of those tattoos, too).
Some people get tattoos because they think they look hot. Fun fact: they some times do. When you're old, they'll probably look less hot because most of us look less hot when we're old, but even then those people can look at their tattoo and go, "Remember when I got this tattoo because I thought it looked hella sexy? I sure was hella sexy." I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Same goes for people who get tattooed because it's a right of passage or because they're 'really into Batman, man.' (Though I beg anyone who gets a tattoo to go to a good artist and get a good tattoo, regardless of what it is.) We're all going to have to live with our tattoos--be they silly tattoos we just got for kicks or ones we thought would mean the same thing forever. A lot of times even the deeply meaningful ones don't mean the same thing to us ten years down the line, so the key is getting something you won't mind looking at for the rest of your life and being okay with whatever memory comes attached.

Stars and hearts remind me of a college girl getting her first tattoo...but not really sure what she wants to get. I'm sure there are people that have really great reasons for them...and that's great.

I would think more along the line of...a favorite or meaningful saying that the girls share...could still be on the back of the neck, would be more unique.

Or have something made that has a piece of all three of them in it, the best way to do that would be to talk to the tat artist and have them help to design it.

I have seen some tats for multiple people use the same item, same place and change the coloring on each person...

behind the ear tattoo's...?

i know two ppl with tattoos behind both their ears. they both said it was nothing painful, but the tattoo gun was just very loud.

the first girl has a tattoo of lips behind one ear and a martini drink on the other side. it symbolizes her clothing line called martini kisses designs. its actually real small and cute.

the second girl has a tattoo of the treble cleft symbol behind one ear and the bass cleft on the other side. she is a musician.

Well, I was an idiot and I got a tattoo done in a basement,
sterelized, from what I know. The girl had a proffesional tattoo gun,
and was an apprentice,

The tattoo I got was all black, and it seems to be scabby now, but around the sides.. are a dark blue, is this a bruise.. because I have
had them for almost 2 days? or is this..The ink going under my skin

Did the person you let do this to you tell you how to take care of a tattoo properly? If it's scabby then it's getting too dry. DO NOT pick the scabs, because that can pull out some of the ink and your design will be messed up. I used Palmer's cocoa butter lotion to heal my two tattoos. It keeps them moist and is great for the skin. Just don't let it stay too wet either, or it can get infected and ooze. You need to consult a professional tattoo artist and show them what you have, so that they can tell you how to fix it. I would go to a tattoo shop with a good reputation and ask them what you can do to save your tat, and your skin, so that it doesn't look horrible after it heals.

First of all, as a disclaimer, I want to say that fashion and beauty are subjective, and everyone has different tastes.

THONG 101:

Now, to answer your question.. for the most part, "HELL, yes!". BUT it's not because of the animal print. Guys are very visual and anything sexy will titillate us anyway, so the idea of just a thong is +1 Google points already. Follow this with an unexpected animal print and we are thinking, "whoa, awesome wild girl!'.

Keep in mind that the person wearing it plays a 100% role in how much we like something too. A "nerdy" library girl or a seemingly "nice" girl wearing animal print thong is hot because of the contrast. It causes a surprise which excites. A hooker wearing one is not at all as great, but hey, it's still a thong on a chick so... yay? but, it's almost expected.

Some guys like tattoos on girls and some don't, but it will never stop us from hooking up with a girl we find attractive. Same with thong prints! I am, personally, more used to less aggressive tones on girl, but an animal print once in a while is still bloody hot.

No matter what, make sure you have the confidence and a decent shape to wear it. Cheers.

I think in moderation is looks very pretty. From the shoulder to mid upper arm would be the perfect size. And I would say adding the color, it might look a little weird with just black. Maybe with the color inside the black ring of the spots? Like Erica from the Bad Girls Club. Look her up.

Tipping my tattoo artist?

I'm getting my first tatt next Thursday.
I plan on getting "A-344" on my wrist in this kind of design, but it will be a bit bigger, not by much though.

I went to the parlor and got an estimate. The girl said $80 for a half an hours work which I personally think is kind of expensive... I would have expected around $50 at most, but I made the appointment anyways because this parlor is reputable in the OC.

Just wondering... how much should I tip my artist afterwards? A lot of my friends are saying 15-20 is decent and 10% is considered minimum... But I think for a tattoo like mine, 15-20% is alot.
and uhh ive been taking diet pills.
they're not FDA approved.
i know that you're not suppose to take any painkillers i.e. tylenol before getting a tattoo done because supposedly you bleed everywhere.

does the same go for the diet pills??

Tattoos are expensive for many reasons, first off you are pay someone for their skill.. Drawing, and tattooing are obviously not easy, and not everyone can do it... They are artists. it takes time and patience to tattoo. Needles are not cheap, ink is not cheap, cleaning supplies are not cheap... i think 80 bucks for that tattoo is not worthy of complaint. Some parlors charge 80 bucks a letter... oh and yes i agree w your friends, at least give them 20 extra for their artistic skills and the time they've put into your design. Most of the money you'll pay will go for the supplies- so be nice... and tip tip tip. :)

Ive been thinking about getting a tattoo, particularly an octopus (theres reason behind it, but i wont get into that), but i wasnt sure where to get it, how big to get it.. etc.

And to the person who said it's stupid to get a tattoo with no meaning most people who are really into tattoos tend not to think every tattoo has to have a meaning and that's what believe too, gets only problem I have is when people get a tattoo with strong meaning and the person who gets it doesn't subscribe to what the tattoo means eg getting a cross tattoo and not being religious or getting music notes and not having music as a strong part of their lives (they don't play in a band or don't have a music related job)

Hi im getting a tattoo soon but i want it somewhere that people will see it but not on the ankle or the wrist because the ankle i usually wear long pants and the wrist i find its more for names and all .. While normal tattoos can take 2 to 4weeks to recover, tattoos in areas such as the genitals, underarms, and feet that are much harder to keep germ free, dirt free, sweat free, and constantly covered with the needed ointment can take considerably longer.

Hey I am going to be turning 18 soon, and am fairly muscled. Some friends of mine (boys and girls) said that I would look good in a tattoo. I was wondering if anyone new some good traditional designs, or half sleeve designs (I think that's what they are called. It's where there is a sleeve tattoo only on your upper arm.) I don't want any of those stupid forehead tattoos. Upper-back and arm tattoos are mostly what I am looking for. At one point I thought subdermal implants would bee cool like a very small star on my wrist, until I looked up on YouTube how they do them haha. Tattoos that would fit me are intense ones, ones that have music (guitar), or artistic and complex designs, even traditional designs. I also have one last question. I have been doing a lot of research and watching many tattooing videos, and noticed that there is substantial bleeding when the tattoo artist uss his first tool. I am not worried about pain, just curious if there are two items a tattoo artist uses. Lastly do tattoo artists generally let you go in and inspect where they will work their art in advance, as well as their portfolio? I really don't want to end up with a turd on my arm...

Ah, the 'I just turned 18!' tat. I've got one myself and, granted, what I'm about to tell you will sound kind of hypocritical, but whatever you choose to get, START SMALL. A week after my 18th birthday I trotted down to my local tattoo shop and got a HUGE chest piece done. Set me back over $500 (come to find out, the place is a rip, however, their work is VERY good) Now that I'm a bit older and would like like more tats, the only thing I regret about what I have (stars swirled in the electro-magnetic spectrum across my chest) is the placement and how big it is. Now, when I consider adding to it, my new artist (actually, a friend of mine who just happens to tattoo) and I have to compromise.

That being said, do whatever feels right.
1. When checking out an artist or shop, have a look at the artist's portfolio and if you're not feeling *super* unique, check out the flash wall. No shame in that and a lot of reputable shops will actually customize the flash art to your liking. Obviously, you're going to check out how clean the place is and how reasonable their prices are, right? Of course. I just got a large puzzle piece, fully colored, across my whole foot for $60. Take that as a reference. The more detail and colors used, the more the tattoo will cost. No shame in comparing shops and artists either. Be patient and find what works for you.

2. Placement- Chest? Walk in the park for me. A lot of people would agree. IF IT IS CLOSE TO THE HEART, THE HEALING PROCESS TENDS TO BE EASIER AND LESS PAINFUL. However, the FURTHER AWAY from the heart, the more intense the pain (especially afterward, if you're a 'bigger' person) during and after, due to circulation. These places (like my foot) have a tendency to heal slower and be prone to infection. FEET, SIDES, UNDERARMS (bicep or forearm, underneath it) ARE TENDER. These areas, to most people HURT. My chest TICKLED compared to my foot.

3. So if you're looking for the 'No pain' zones, try to get something on your bicep or any muscle-y area. For your first tattoo, avoid doing large pieces (think things out a bit, if you want sleeves, you don't want a gigantic piece on your bicep that's going to mess up your sleeve later.) AND, BUY A BOTTLE OF BACTINE (OR STOREBRAND.) Should have Lidocaine in it. Some shops carry it and will either charge you for it or only spray you once if you're hurting. No shame in pain. If you're squirming, that just makes things hard on them, so it's best to bring your own. Spray the area down every 20 mins or so. This won't mess anything up, and I admittedly did it for my foot.

4. As for designs, other than what I said about flash art and checking portfolios, if you find an ACTUAL TATTOO ARTIST (and honestly, you don't want someone who just stencils), they can draw out anything you can dream up. Think of things you know you will never change you mind about. Stars, in my case, are never going to be something I'm going to regret in the future. They're damn stars. Hah. And YES, IF THEY DON'T LET YOU CALL OR COME IN TO INSPECT, DON'T GO THERE. No shop should have anything to hide.

dark souls has moderate customization, but very fun gameplay. best action RPG i have ever played.

you should try the fable series. great art style. you can get different clothes, tattooes, hairstyles. only thing is you start as a default character (boy or girl) but as you play the game you start looking different. and moral choices you make will make you start growing horns or a halo.

Shower before you go there so the skin is already clean. You can listen to your ipod do a crossword puzzle text your friends stay on instagram or facebook. Do something that entertains you. Blasting music always helped for me. Aftercare. Make sure when you take a shower after getting it done probably the next day you run lightly over it with a soap bar just to get any excess blood and dried skin off of it to avoid infection. Keep it moisturized with either Neosporin A&D or coco butter. After the first week or so put lotion on it daily after getting out of the shower. On your vacation its okay to let it air out. You will have to take the dressing off completely within the next few days to let the tattoo scab and heal correctly but AVOID SUN EXPOSURE AND POOLS to it, They can both make the tattoo fade. GOOD LUCKK !

So my boyfriend of 4 years has a facebook and instagram which i guess is ok with me, but on his instagram he always likes this girl's pictures,which i mean she is really hot, shes all tatted, nice body, but god she wears alot of make up which makes her look good, and with out it, she isnt so pretty. They are probably just friends. If it really bothers you, talk to him about it. Ask him why he likes her pictures. I think long quotes make for ugly tattoos, regardless of what the content is. A word or two can be beautiful but once it becomes more than a couple of words it turns into just a block of text all stacked up on your body and it ends up looking ugly as sin. Proper script tattoos should be on the large side to make sure it remains legible as well and a lot of people are getting quote tattoos these days that will turn unreadable pretty quickly since the fonts they choose are so small.

What is your perception of a girl with a rib cage tattoo?

I really love the idea of a rib cage tattoo but the only girl I know who has one 1) has it going down her crotch and 2) has a clit ring.
I want a short poem with maybe a small cluster of stars. I'm very conservative and I have 2 tattoos already that I basically forget about because I'm always covered up.

Ok so this is a very long story... but i really need some advice as idk what else to do.

My bf and I have been dating for over 4 1/2 years already. We have always been very happy and our relationship has been great. We first started having a some problems when he got a new job and his supervisor was a tattooed girl with piercings and crazy hair. She was not attractive but had that "suicide girl look". He never expressed any feelings for her and thought she was ugly. months went on and slowly i noticed they were becoming work buddys. He started being more secretive about her and she would flirt with him right in front of him. i told him i did not like her and to stop talking to her and keep it professional. He didn't like that idea and claimed she was just his "friend". so this went on for a while and finally one day he told me that he was sort of "attracted to her & liked her style". that really hurt my feelings because i was right all along. anyways, we somehow made it after all that. However, i have never forgotten about it and still resent it.

a couple of days ago, i was on his laptop and while typing a URL, her tumblr popped up. This infuriated me. Why was he looking at her tumblr? it had been over a year! he didn't see when i saw the tumblr so i confronted him saying that i saw a girls blog. he panicked so much and lied for his life. presented me with a suicide girl's tumblr. I was crushed because he had just lied to me about her again. told me he was just "curious". may i add this was all on my birthday?! anyways i forgave him again like i always do.

then we go back to tumblr.... he has a tumblr dedicated to "tattooed girls". i've known about it but never asked to see it and gave him privacy. so after my bday incident when he showed me the suicide girls tumblr, i wanted to see it. i did and he only followed about 9 people, and liked about 40ish photos (all tattood women). then i see the women he had previously showed met that he thought was really hot and guess what? she looks just like her supervisor.... i was very upset at that. I've had just about enough giving him so many chances and trying to "understand"guys needs. so i thought i deserved to express myself, i told him he could keep looking at those girl on tumblr but not the one that looked like his supervisor. he said he never made the connection between the two but idk if that true because he will lie for his life to not make me upset. he promised me he would not look at her because he didn't want to loose me. Wrong, he still looks at her although i said i didn't want him to.

my thing is, i am aware that he watches adult movies online, has a tumblr with naked tattooed women and i have said that is ok as long as its during his private time and doesn't make it personal (he had looked some up on instagram and had several wallpapers on his comp). and yet he cannot understand and leave ONE girl alone although it makes me very upset because it looks like her supervisor?!?!?!

Look, you've told him how you feel about him ogling those pictures and you've asked him countless times to stop. He still does it. What does that tell you?
He doesn't respect you or your feelings.
Having certain preferences is fine, and he may well genuinely love you.
But when your fantasies start spilling over and causing problems in your personal life, that's when it stops being a preference and starts becoming an obssession.
Deep down, are you planning these tattoo appointments because YOU want them? Or are you doing it because you're trying to "keep" him?
If it's for you, then fine. But if even a small part of you thinks that he'll be more "attracted" to you, or will treat you better if you are tattooed as well, then I would urge you not to do it.
It's fair enough liking tattoes, but when you're with someone, you're not with them for their body art. You're with them for the person they are... And you accept them as they are.
If he doesn't respect you, honour you, and treat you right NOW, then he is never going to... Tattoed or not!
I think you need you either accept that this is the way he will always be and stop expecting him to change, or walk away and find someone you trust, who makes you feel secure and loved.

We're both girls. I really want to make it special. She's really special to me, like my other half. We have all the benefits of being in a relationship like going on dates, and kissing... that stuff :) lol. Anyways she really loves pokemon, any dubstep or screamo, video games, tattoos and piercing, that sort of stuff. Were both 14, im going to be 15 in a month, so i cant really do anything over the top amazing.

I was thinking about getting her one of those big pokemon balls

My uncle has the footprints of his daughter, and besides having her name and DOB, little floral designs around them make it look really cute. They have small flowers on twisting vines, and it looks really nice.
