Know any good tumblr blogs?

Taylor

I like a variety of things. Cats, summer, BANDS (pierce the veil, sleeping with sirens, marianas trench..) quotes, photography, tattoos, piercings.
I want some unique and interesting blogs to follow. I don't really like the overrated hipster/skinny girl blogs. So, if you know some blogs, thatd be great.(:

Answer
The most intersting blog I know (BY FAR) is http://dandelionamazingblog.blogspot.com/

Girls what do you think?

Kuntry_Bam

So, I have this tattoo idea and I thought about this tattoo long and hard. I have been through a lot and i'm always been for peace and love. I wanted something on body with meaning that represent who i am and what i stand for. I didn't want a copy tattoo idea but something unique so I found a quote by Walt Whiteman - ''Peace Is Always Beautiful'' I love it, and I wanted it across my chest with also something like this at the end, so the tattoo with have some extra. http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=A0PDoX2M5q5R5F8AZWWJzbkF;_ylu=X3oDMTBlMTQ4cGxyBHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDaW1n?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3F_adv_prop%3Dimage%26va%3Dheart%2Bpeace%26fr%3Dyfp-t-900%26tab%3Dorganic%26ri%3D3&w=550&h=495&imgurl=www.freetattoodesigns.org%2Fimages%2Ftattoo-gallery%2Fheart-peace-tattoo-design.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.freetattoodesigns.org%2Fpeace-sign-tattoos.html&size=49KB&name=%3Cb%3EHeart+peace+%3C%2Fb%3Etattoo+design&p=heart+peace&oid=e7fb8078015371230d4496d8d8b62181&fr2=&fr=yfp-t-900&tt=%3Cb%3EHeart+peace+%3C%2Fb%3Etattoo+design&b=0&ni=105&no=3&ts=&tab=organic&sigr=11odmnovp&sigb=139j991cn&sigi=12d4bpju1&.crumb=n81x.Ro/zPP&fr=yfp-t-900

It will be across my chest and I am a guy. So, what do you think about my idea?

Ps: Also, Christofer Drew my inspiration and I wanted some similar but unique to me

What do you think of TATTOOS and INTIMATE PIERCINGS on WOMEN and GIRLS?

smiling sa

The best permanent enhancement for a woman's body is NO enhancement at all. Tatts especially, no matter how "good" they may be, are like taking a can of spray paint to the Mona Lisa. If I found out a woman I was dating had tatts, or piercings under her clothes (except a pierced navel), I'd probably ditch her. How about you?
Oops, if it isn't clear enough, let me emphasize: the above is only my own opinion.

Answer
I have thought about getting a tattoo, I even know what I would get if I did (a cool Latin phrase that used to be an ancient family motto). That being said, I will most likely never get one done. I had an incredible great-grandfather who had numerous tattoos all over his chest.... if you're looking for something that will make you reconsider a tattoo, look no further then the chest of a 90yr old man. A tattoo might look great now but I can't help imagining that same tattoo in 30-40 yrs, ugh!
So, I'm with you on this one - nothing is as beautiful as natural skin and this applies to guys as well as girls.

What are some traditional/common tattoo phrases?

eyeballmou

Like "Live Free or Die" or something. Common tattoos like that
Actually, I am drawing up some flash art spoofing traditional phrases and adding dessert/snack food references. My roommate now has a brand spankin new "SEMPER PIE" tattoo and I am contemplating "LIVE FREE OR PIE" or perhaps "SERIAL CREPIST" although that one is a little... weird.

Quote Tattoo placements?

julia

I want tattoos sooo bad! I already have ideas of what I want. First I want "Stay Strong" on the outside of my right foot. Then I also want the quote "Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind, or forgotten" somewhere. It's a long quote and I don't know where it would look best. I thought about getting it across the back of my shoulders but would it be too long for that? Also I want "the flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all" and I have no idea where to get that one either! Also I am a girl if that helps with placement. And I do understand that tattoos are forever, that's why all these quotes have deeper meanings to me and I'd never regret getting it. Thank you for your help!

Answer
I really like your choices first off ;)

i personally really like wrist quotes, maybe you should consider that?
Maybe on your neck?

For tattoos, they stay with you forever, so you want something that means a lot to you. I like quotes for books that i love. for example, "If we burn, you burn with us" from the Hunger Games Mockingjay. I dunno why, i just find it so powerful!

Beatles tattoo idea!?

Em

I want the tattoo "tomorrow may rain do I'll follow the sun" and a sunshine next to it with the middle of the sun being a peace sign. I love foot tattoos but I feel like this would be too crowded on my foot. Where else would this look good on a girl?

Answer
You could get the quote on one foot and the sun on the other

Tattoo placement question?

Kaitlyn

http://www.yusrablog.com/tattoos/more-stunning-infinity-tattoo-designs-for-girls/attachment/infinito/

Left hip area is where I would want it, red or hot pink flowers probably.
I am not very tall, (5'0,)
Not sure how the tattoo would look on my hip. Should I make it smaller, and where on the hip would it look good, higher or lower, what's the beat place for it, when I have a baby. Any info would be great

Answer
If you get a tattoo on your hip (being a girl) when you get pregnant or if you get bigger in the future it may stretch it or you may get stretch marks threw the tattoo. That happened to my sister. My advise get it smaller and higher up or put on a place that wont stretch or get bigger like your upper back or feet or neck or hands etc.
Hope this helped some!

Tattoo design ideas ?

Q. I want to complete my sleeve and im not to sure what to get. The sleeve incorporates a lot of old school designs. Like a mans ruin theme. I have all these on my forearm and i want one big piece on my upper arm and then have it all linked together. I was thinking of maybe a old school pin-up girl piece. Any thoughts on other things that might go well along this theme ?

Answer
My thoughts are, change your plans and do not permanently deface your body with tattoos. There is a big cost to getting a tattoo, and it is far more than wasted money. The true cost of a tattoo is a lifetime of regret. Most regret it within 5 years. There is an 80% chance you will regret it in your lifetime. The regret starts after you start to notice how people react to you. Many people will look at you with disgust, for tattoos are offensive to many, many people. I suggest you do not get a tattoo. A tattoo is little better than a cartoonâyou canât get a good quality drawing on the human skin. It will deface your body like ugly graffiti defaces a public building. There are serious practical reasons not to get tattooed. Your chances of getting a good job will be greatly diminishedâmost companies will not hire you since your tattoo will be seen as offensive to other workers. The majority of western people get tattooed when young and their decision making process is not yet matured. Youth tends to be impulsive. Young people are still developing and they need to be very careful in making important, permanent decisions. The reasons young people get tattooed are not mature (i.e. they want people to notice them, they want to pretentiously âhonorâ someone in a way that will attract notice, they want to pretentiously present some âdeepâ quotation on their skin in the hope that people will think they too are âdeepâ, they are rebelling against their parents or society, they are conforming to what they think are social norms, they are unable to see ahead and view the negative results of their actions, etc.) If you want to see the true level of cultural development for tattoos and other body modifications, look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwOXCmjTsvs In a large sense, nothing illustrates the degeneration of western culture more than the entertainment industry encouraging impulsive youth to permanently disfigure themselves in order to âexpress themselvesâ. But such is the power of suggestion that more and more young people are buying into this Hollywood lie that tattoos are a cutting edge way to âexpressâ yourself. But that is so not true. You should express yourself with your words and actions, not by inking graffiti onto your living flesh, in a manner offensive to both man and God, who instructed us through His prophet Moses: "Do not cut your bodies⦠or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORDâ Leviticus 19:28. The message you will actually convey with a tattoo is âI am foolishâ, âI make bad decisionsâ, âI have no sense of right and wrong,â âI follow fadsâ and âI am unemployableâ. I am telling you this because I care about you and I want to help you avoid a bad mistake. Good luck to you in your life. But do not get tattooed. Tattoos are permanent. You can not take them back

Opinions on my tattoo idea?!?

Q. I have a long time to wait, considering I'm only 15
but on my 18th my mums paying for my tattoo, and I have an idea
On the back of my left shoulder I want a blue and yellow swallow like this
http://newkidonthehallway.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/09/21/swallow_tattoo_large.jpg

would that be a nice idea?
and also, should I have any writing with it?

Answer
It looks nice! I think it's cool and not trashy looking. Girls should be really careful about the location and design of they're tattoos, but I think both of your choices are great. About the writing, well probably in the 3 years left for you to get it done you will come up with more stuff to add to the design and you can decide if you want the writing or not. Cheers!

What does it represent when a girl has two swallows tattooed on her lower stomach just above the waist?

Evil

I know that a swallow means you will always find your way home and come back. What do the two mean on a girls stomach?

Answer
Swallow tattoo's have a variety of meanings.

They were first made popular by sailors, a sailor with two swallows had traveled 10,000 miles (one bird for each 5,000 miles). Swallows always return back to their home so it was said that swallows were a symbol that the sailor would one day return home.

If this girl isn't in the Navy then swallows also represent love and affection for family members and friends. Showing that this person is very loyal.

She probably just liked the way the design looked on her stomach so she decided to get the tattoo there. I would ask her if you are really that interested. I'm sure she'll tell you!

lower back tattoo idea?

Ellie T

well im getting my first tattoo next month, because im a catholic girl and i want a tattoo that means something to me i was going to get a cross tattooed on my belly but then everyone said about when im older and get pregnant it would stretch so instead im looking to get "jesus died for me now i live for him" because its quite a long sentence i would be getting it done in 2 lines in curly fancy writing on my lower back, wot do you think? also is lower back tattoos painful! thank you? x

Answer
Lower back tattoos are generally called tramp stamps, for something a little more unique you could get the words written down wards from the center of your shoulder blades to your lower back following your spine you can do it so its read side on so you can still use cursive fonts rather then, a which can look disjointed. Good luck :)

Rib tattoos on chubby girls?!?

Gina

Any tattoo artists or chubby girls w/ rib tattoos have any comments? I'm a chubby girl that is getting a rib tattoo on Tuesday, and I'm wondering what people think, or how it looks, or how far down your side you should go since I have 'love handles'... I'm confident about my body, so that doesn't matter, but I can't find ANY pictures of bigger girls w/ rib tattoos!
I'm 5'5 and 200lbs...Most of my weight is carried on my bottom half though...my tummy isnt too bad, but i do have love handles...

Answer
I have a rib tattoo and I'm a chunky chick. Personally, I love it! I think it's my best one yet!
I have those fabulous love handles too and I went down to the curve of my hip to underneath my arm on the side of my breast. I think girls with tattoos are beautiful but chubby girls with tattoos...it's like an added bonus! I'll tell you though it hurts like hell. Especially on the side of the your boob. Ugh it's awful but it's so worth it!
I'm glad you're getting one because us chubby girls shouldn't be afraid or hesitant of getting rib tattoos just because we have a little extra meat on us.
More power to you sweetie.

Small Star Tattoos?

Amanda Jo

I will be 18 next month and I've thought about getting tattoos for a while now, a couple years really. I'm 5 foot 6 inches tall, weight 135 lbs., 34C up top, athletic body, and I have long dirty blonde hair. My nails are always black and I'm the type of girl that most people characterize just because of my navel piercing. Sorry, I just want you to have an idea of what I look like. So what's your opinion on me getting three small star tattoos on: my lower middle back, left inner wrist, and right hip? Should they be different colors? Different sizes? Also, what do you know about daith piercings? How much am I going to end up paying for this stuff??

Answer
Since you are only 18..I would go for the hip area..the back is out...due to the stars are going to be too small for such a big area. The wrist..one day you will regret it....when trying to get jobs or even married.....think about it before you mark your body. I would def. go for the hip area...

what are some tattoo ideas?

Q. i want to get a tattoo. i am thinking of a dragonfly one on my lower back. most of my friends when i tell them the idea they say tramp stamp. i am just thinking of tattoos and ideas

this is the one i have liked best so far...
http://www.naturalexpressions.org/AB_Dragonfly_2.jpg

Answer
I like the picture. It'll be small, and it's just black so overall it shouldn't take too long. Here's my opinion on "tramp stamps." Who decided that means a girl is a tramp? I mean, why there? It's an easy to hide but it can still be shown. Wouldn't a girl who has one near her hip that peaks out over her pants be worse? Or on her clevage? Anyway, let me get off my soapbox and just say you should get the tattoo where you would like it the best and not worry about what everyone else considers it to be. So what if it's "popular"; it's not like you're going to find a place that no one has tattooed on before. And with that, I wish you good luck. If it is going on your lower back, I'd add some cute little wavy lines going out each side, but that's just me, and it's cute either way.

Good tattoo design for girls?

Derpina

i want to have a tattoo on my soldier. not too big and not too small. i am a girl. I am so confused on what tattoo should i have. last time i liked the peace love music tattoo but i think its too small like when you put an angel or something then it looks little bigger so that looks good but my friend already had an angel tattoo on her soldier. So what can i have?

Answer
First off- If you're going to get a tattoo, You Get What You Pay For.
I cannot stress that enough.
If you go to that tattoo parlor that says TATTOO in big red letters next to K-mart and they offer to do some ink on you for 50 dollars, you're probably not going to get a good tattoo.

So be ready to spend at least $200. (plus tip)

Your artist will fill you in on care, or should anyway.

A peacock would be cute. The tail going down your arm. Maybe some sort of flower that represents you. Like fierce but sensitive- A rose.
Happy but simple- a daisy.

If you're bold and out going, bright warm colors will flatter you!
Shy and passive cool and blueish colors will go good.

I'm getting a tattoo for my 17th birthday(Yes I do know you have to be 18)
And I have no ideas of what to get at all. The idea of choosing something that has to stay with my through my life is daunting.
Ive googled tattoo designs but nothing good comes up. So any ideas?
Im looking for something artistic. Im a girly girl. Nothing too big. Any ideas?
Also would I be able to design my own and hand it in to the tattoo artist?

Answer
Ask yourself why do you feel that you have to get a tattoo, when you have no idea what you want, and you're not sure how you feel about having one for your whole life. What's your hurry? Someone holding a gun to your head?
Really, it is a good rule of thumb, to not get a tattoo, unless you have an image/idea that you thought of yourself, always related to, or just 'knew' that it was right for you. If you have nothing in your head, please don't just grab something, just to do it. There are a lot of other good ideas for your 17th birthday gift.
If you 'just have to do it' .. well my advise would be to go for a flower. (unless you hate them..) but they age well, there is a huge variety or shape, style, color, and size. They can be placed anywhere and go with anything. When you are old, you will still love your flower.
So, now you think, look, search, (if you really want one). Or wait,.. there is no hurry.
Here is a good source site:http://tattoo.about.com/
Here are a few tattoo worthy flowers:

http://fine-art-prints-store.com/images/15300-red-rose.jpg
http://dpnow.com/galleries/data/500/2007-03-15-purple-flower-2-.jpg
Make sure that you find a well established, experienced, licensed artist, and that way you won't be looking for a cover up tattoo, or laser removal within 5 years.
Good luck with your decision.

Need a tattoo idea to cover stretch marks on lower back?

Throbbing

I plan on getting more than one tattoo in the future but for now i just want to cover my stretch marks, and i'm not fat, i started going to the gym and i put on muscle mass really quickly, the stretch marks are in the middle lower back in about a 6 inch square. Any ideas?
Thats why i'm worried because it is tramp stamp territory, i think eventually i'll have a full back piece for thats gonna be built over time, and its more towards the middle of my back then tramp stamp territory, like if you have your arms by your side, inline with elbows

Answer
You probably would like to put a tiger tattoo on it. like a tiger that is about to attack or jump on someone, it was a very wonderful tattoo for a boy, if you're a boy, cause my boyfriend had this kind of tattoo. But for a girl i think flowers will do but make it artistic. Like little flowers and big flowers all together, colored will be good than all black tattoos. Hope this will help, or try searching some good designs on google so that you'll know what you like. Or maybe don't put a tattoo just love yourself, cause no matter if you have stretch marks or scars, you are loved by God.

alien tattoo for a girl?

noodle doo

I have been a huge UFO and alien fan. My family and I strongly believe in the existence of aliens and I would like to display these strong beliefs on my skin for the rest of my life. So, between these 2 pictures, which do you think would look best? I'm a girl by the way, and I think I want to get it on my upper right arm. But other suggestions are appreciated and taken into consideration. Although I am saving my left shoulder blade for and elephant tattoo.

1)http://lamarzulli.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/alien-priest.jpg
2)http://jackteach.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/ancient-alien-11.jpg

I also want to get the words "we are not alone" under it.

Answer
1. Tattoos (& aliens) are SUPER cliche these days (especially bad tattoos). It's usually a decision people regret later in life.

2. It makes you appear as if you have identity crisis issues. Low self esteem or lack of creativity Especially, if it's something as misrepresentative as an "alien" on your skin (an alien? Really?). Think about it. You are becoming a human poster child or "ad campaign" for something YOU yourself can't even explain. Hopefully what I'll tell you below will help or at least give you some other perspective

I'm really not trying to insult you here & I'm not opposed to people getting tattoos. I'm trying to keep you from making a decision you will later regret. You seem like a really nice person & just remember you don't NEED tattoos to prove who you are & that you are some "hipster". Your identity is in your mind & in your heart. This is what I posted for someone else regarding the existence of aliens:

UFO's are real, but not in the sense you think. The 2 top most respected researchers in this field are J. Allen Hynek (American) & Jacques Vallee (French researcher). Hynek was appointed to head a government funded project back in the 1950's called project Bluebook during the height of the UFO phenomena @ this time. His findings after decades of research (along with Vallee) is that these beings have the ability to APPEAR to be physical, materialize & dematerialize when they want which is why their abilities "appear" to defy properties of physics & can travel at unbelievable speeds. Their conclusions are that these beings are 'interdimensional' or 'demonic' (No, they are or WERE not Christians when they published their findings either) & that they are NOT friendly beings because they pose as something they are not & they never make contact or confirm their intentions which is something always indicative of a deceptive nature

They also conclude that there is no proof they actually come from outer space, but rather fall in line with the same phenomena of spirits, ghosts, demons, etc. The reason for this is because "alien abductees" experience & exhibit the same symptoms & behavior as a person that is "demonically possessed". It's the same phenomena when an abductee is studied under deep hypnosis. Many psychologists have published these results as well. They "pose" or "appear" as whatever they want in efforts to deceive man. For example, ghosts are these beings impersonating the dead. They are called different things amongst different cultures throughout the world. They exist in myth & lore since the dawn of man if you read a lot of history. All able to materialize & dematerialize wherever & whenever. It's why they can suddenly show up then disappear on radar

It's all about a grand deception, so I'm sorry to disappoint you. I was a big fan of alien movies myself, X-Files, etc. but now that I've read & figured out a lot about this subject over the past 20 years or so I've since changed my view completely. These are not MY opinions just to be clear, but the findings of actual field resarchers & scientists published in this field who were appointed by our president. Also, if you seen the film Close Encounters, the french scientist is who Spielberg based on Jacques Vallee for that movie. Vallee, however publicly stated he did not agree with that character's viewpoint as believing them to be aliens from another world. Please look this up for yourself. I highly recommend a documentary you can watch for free on youtube called "The Real Story Behind Aliens_ Ufos_ Demons_ Illuminati & Satanism". It's a real eye opener & ties into how this all connects into world politics & it's influence over man. See the link below to view that video. It will open you up to a lot of other really great speakers & researchers on the subjects.

I still LOVE sci-fi stuff, just nothing to do with aliens anymore because there is no such thing...again...not in the sense you think. Hope this was helpful because I hate to see good people being deceived.

I have tattoos and I also find tattoos on women very attractive. but, if you plan on getting one stay away form the tramp stamp (lower back) that is getting pretty old. Also don't get a tattoo for the sake of getting one, make sure you like the design you will have it for the rest of your life. Personally I designed both of my own and I'm very happy with the way they came out & I'm in the process of designing a couple more.

whats the sexiest place/type of tattoo a girl can have?

Makeba L

what area and design guys do you think is hottest? colored? black and white? etc.

Answer
Of course everyone has their own opinion on this... But tiny "I barely want a tattoo" tattoos, trying-too-hard-to-be-sexy tattoos, tribals etc, are common as dirt, and usually worn by boring, unoriginal people. And I don't find those kind of people sexy. Of course there are people who find lower back tribal/butterfly/star pieces sexy, they probably think all boring stereotypical 'sexy' things are.
There's always a place in the world for playboy bunny tattoos - a big warning sign that the wearer is a huge moron.

I like big, well done and interesting work, on people with the looks to pull it off! The placement doesn't matter as long as it suits the artwork. Gotta laugh at guys intimidated enough by women who can sit through more tattoo hours then them, to call them butch :D

Custom Tattoo Ideas?

cheech3398

My interests:

Good vs. Evil
music
anti-religion
Learning from past mistakes
Science
Quest for knowledge
Power
Philosophy
Independence
anti-authority
having an underlying evil side

I want to get a tattoo that mixes my interests... most importantly the struggle to better understand the world, to learn from the past but have no regrets, and the fact that part of me is insane.

Can anyone suggest some sites where I can do some further research on generating my own unique symbol?

Thanks!

Answer
If you want a really unique tattoo, shave your head, and on the back get a picture of your face - too cool.

What tattoo would look good up a girls side?

Juliana F

I'm 18 and just need a few ideas or suggestions for a tattoo up my side. I want something that is cute and classy, nothing to flashy but nothing to dull or boring. And would it look better symmetrical or would it look ok on just one side

Answer
With tattoos you want to first talk have an idea of what YOU like. Flowers and butterflies are nice and girly, stars and space is cool. If it doesn't mean anything to you, it won't be special.
I think the best body tattoos should be done with the contours of our body. backgrounds can be done free hand, or should be sketched on paper over the body. A good tattoo artist will work with your body to accent you and your tattoo.

Is a tattoo on a girl sexier on her back or on her side?

Which one of these do you like better?

I kind of think the side one looks better, the only thing is thatit is more susceptible to stretching, particularly if you ever get pregnant. Thoughts?

Answer
The one down the side is better i think personally. I don't think getting pregnant would affect it much and it hasn't affected people i know who get pregnant. As long as you kept the skin well moisturized.
I just think ones down the side are much more feminine than ones down the back.

what are some creative, cute & meaningful first tattoo ideas?

Josselyn

I'm a 16 year old girl & I'm getting my first tattoo next week. I'm planning on either getting it on my back, behind my left shoulder or on my wrist. I need some creative ideas for a small tattoo. A cute quote or something that has meaning behind it. Please help me. Btw, don't sit there & tell me I'm too young because I'm not, I looked it up :) please just give me ideas. Thank you!

Answer
What's meaningful to me may not be meaningful at all to you. I could sit here and give you a bunch of generic sayings ans whatnot that a million people already have, but I'm not going to. What are some things that are meaningful to YOU? Things you love. Words you live by. Any idea can be made into a tattoo.

Are bird tattoos only for girls?

Shawn B

I really would like a tattoo of a sparrow (bird), but I see mostly girls with them, does that make is kind of feminine? (sounds dumb phrased like that) but I'm just wondering if it's just coincidence of what I've seen

Answer
Nope, my grandpa had two swallows on his chest, and I believe my uncle has a bird as well (not sure though, can't really make out any of his tattoos any more).

If you think it's girly, then it's girly. If you think it's manly, then it's manly. Don't base it off what people on the internet think, base your tattoo off what you want.

Edit: Regarding the comment below mine... those are swallows, not sparrows. ^_~ http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_does_a_sparrow_tattoo_symbolize

Tattooing

Answer
Tattooing has been a practice of almost every known people. The Ainu, the indigenous people of Japan, wore unique facial tattoos. Tattooing was widespread among Polynesian peoples, and in the Philippines, Borneo, Samoa, Africa, Japan, and China.

Tattooing has been a Eurasian practice since Neolithic times. "Ãtzi the Iceman", dated circa 3300 BC was tattooed, as was the mummified male found in the Pasaryk burial whose body was tattooed with stylized animal designs. In the Steppes, other natural mummies up to 7000 years old have been found to have tattoos.

Europeans rediscovered tattooing during the exploration of the South Pacific under Captain James Cook in the 1770s, and sailors were particularly identified with tattoos in European culture until after World War I.

Tattoos have always had an important role in ritual and tradition. In Borneo, women tattooed symbols on their forearm indicating their particular skill. If a woman wore a symbol indicating she was a skilled weaver, her status as prime marriageable material was increased. Tattoos around the wrist and fingers were believed to ward away illness. Throughout history tattoos have signified membership in a clan or society. Even today groups like the Hells Angels tattoo their particular group symbol. TV and movies have used the idea of a tattoo indication membership in a secret society numerous times. It has been believed that the wearer of an image calls the spirit of that image. The ferocity of a tiger would belong to the tattooed person. That tradition holds true today shown by the proliferation of images of tigers, snakes, and bird of prey.

In recorded history, the earliest tattoos can be found in Egypt during the time of the construction of the great pyramids (It undoubtedly started much earlier). When the Egyptians expanded their empire, the art of tattooing spread as well. The civilizations of Crete, Greece, Persia, and Arabia picked up and expanded the art form. Around 2000 BC tattooing spread to China.

The Greeks used tattooing for communication among spies. Markings identified the spies and showed their rank. Romans marked criminals and slaves. This practice is still carried on today. The Ainu people of western Asia used tattooing to show social status. Girls coming of age were marked to announce their place in society, as were the married women. The Ainu are noted for introducing tattoos to Japan where it developed into a religious and ceremonial rite. In Borneo, women were the tattooists. It was a cultural tradition. They produced designs indicating the owners station in life and the tribe he belonged to. Kayan women had delicate arm tattoos which looked like lacy gloves. Dayak warriors who had "taken a head" had tattoos on their hands. The tattoos garnered respect and assured the owners status for life. Polynesians developed tattoos to mark tribal communities, families, and rank. They brought their art to New Zealand and developed a facial style of tattooing called Moko which is still being used today. There is evidence that the Mayan, Incas, and Aztecs used tattooing in the rituals. Even the isolated tribes in Alaska practiced tattooing, their style indicating it was learned from the Ainu.

In the west, early Britons used tattoos in ceremonies. The Danes, Norse, and Saxons tattooed family crests (a tradition still practiced today). In 787 AD, Pope Hadrian banned tattooing. It still thrived in Britain until the Norman Invasion of 1066. The Normans disdained tattooing. It disappeared from Western culture from the 12th to the 16th centuries.

While tattooing diminished in the west, it thrived in Japan. At first, tattoos were used to mark criminals. First offenses were marked with a line across the forehead. A second crime was marked by adding an arch. A third offense was marked by another line. Together these marks formed the Japanese character for "dog". It appears this was the original "Three strikes, you're out" law. In time, the Japanese escalated the tattoo to an aesthetic art form. The Japanese body suit originated around 1700 as a reaction to strict laws concerning conspicuous consumption. Only royalty were allowed to wear ornate clothing. As a result of this, the middle class adorned themselves with elaborate full body tattoos. A highly tattooed person wearing only a loin cloth was considered well dressed, but only in the privacy of their own home.

William Dampier is responsible for re-introducing tattooing to the west. He was a sailor and explorer who traveled the South Seas. In 1691 he brought to London a heavily tattooed Polynesian named Prince Giolo, Known as the Painted Prince.

Tattoo ideas for a girl.?

Christina

Im 18 a wanting another tattoo :) ideas

Answer
It depends on your style and what kind of tattoos that you like but this is what I came up with:

One of my favorite tattoos that I've seen girls have is a dream catcher tattoo, mainly because it never looks tacky and I think anyone can pull it off. Also you can have it anywhere, big or small.

Another idea would just be words or a bible verse which is really common and everything but I still love tattoos like that. When it comes to having words tattoo I think it just comes down to placement and my favorite placements are back and forearm.

If nothing like that interests you, I think color tattoos are just awesome. Or even white ink tattoos like:

It kind of looks like a scar, but not in a bad way or anything. Ohhh and it totally glows under black light. (:

Any good finger tattoo ideas for a girl?

fdhs3509

whats a good female tattoo on your finger? not one of those knuckle tattoos that say something, just a small finger tattoo.

Answer
None, finger tattoos don't work. The skin regenerates itself to quickly to keep a tattoo there. Hands and Lips are similar. Parts of it will fade quickly, the detail often blurs and there are no cover up options once you don't like it anymore. Some people will tell you that it can be done, it can, the majority of people are unhappy with the results when it heals. In my opinion it is a waste of money to get tattooed if it will not work. What may be a cute idea quickly becomes a ugly mess that is with you forever.

Strength tattoo ideas?

Q. I have battled with bad depression , and I want to get a tattoo that represents inner strength to remind myself that i am strong enough. I want it to be really tiny, and i am thinking a little below my hip on my underwear line so it is not seen. Any other ideas of places would be ideal! I"m an 18 year old girl if that helps. What are some ideas that represent strength? I am thinking a chinese or japanese symbol that is strength, not necessarily a picture. Any pictures and/or ideas would be incredibly helpful! Thank you, this means a lot to me.

Answer
I'm a tattoo artist, and tattoos on the hip hurt pretty bad. And I've seen a lot of people get cherry blossoms to represent strength. A cherry blossom would also be easy to make tiny.
