But my advice to you is this...

Where are you comfortable ... getting your tattoo .. that you know you will be happy with its placement when you get older?

Example: I was going to get wings on my back , and i was going to design them myself, and then I said " Wait... when the day comes when I get married, I want to wear a backless dress, I don't want people seeing that on my wedding day"... so I didn't get them but I got stars on my hips instead. The good thing about the hips (right above my pant line a star on each side) is that as I get older , I will dress my age and the tattoo's will be covered up.

If you want something showy (in a place where it cannot be hidden) than that's your choice, but seriously think about it...

Forearm? ehhh yes and no
Thigh? Not for me personally i want to be able to wear shorts
Calf? Not for me... more of a place where guys get them ( in my own opinion)
shoulder blade? Not for me, its been done and I don't want it showing like that

I'm a male 21 and I've had this tattoo of the RHCP asterisk symbol (Red 8 pointed star) on my chest since I was 18. I have nothing against them I love their music but I just have felt such regret ever since cause its just a big red thing on my chest and I'm self conscious of taking my shirt off. Rather than the garden rose that's usual in tattoos, you MIGHT at least consider a heraldic rose, representing the English wild rose that stares out at you from its hedge, rather than turning its face up to the sky. If you get it that young it will be all faded and look crappy when you get older because your body is still growing. my step mom got one when she was 15 of a rose on her boob and she hates it now and wishes shed never gotten it. my little brother got one of a yin yang on his arm when he was 14 and now it looks sooo tiny on his big arm. they were both not done at a tattoo shop just with a friends tattoo gun. they will not look good. they will look like jailhouse tattoos.

Well dear, what exactly do you feel about life, regrets, and belief? You should be inspired by someting before you mark yourself with it...not decide to get a marking and scramble to find something to fill space. You're doing it all backwards.

Center yourself, read some books, live some life, find something that really speaks to your soul, and come back to the tattoo thing in a few years when you're really ready. Please don't do it just get a tattoo because it's trendy..especially a quote. If you want something fast, get an image. An image is more prone to interpretation than actual words. Getting a quote is something different...it's an unabstracted definition of something that's a part of you...either it's a mantra you live by or it's a phrase that got you through a tough time or it's something that someone you loved repeated to you...something along those lines. Picking something at random might not hold up over time. You don't want to live with something untrue.

I have a big colored tattoo where my front ribs are, and ive heard that tanning will fade it out. I spent alot of money on my tattoo and if its going to be on my body for the rest of my life, i want it looking good as long as possible. You could use sunblock or cover it with a towel. Tanning beds WILL fade your ink. I know maybe you think that being "tan" is sexy but seriously reconsider this. Tanning salons are going out of business left and right. For starters, fake tans usually LOOK fake. Secondly it destroys your skin and makes it look like leather when you are old and this is a proven fact. I don't even have to go into the health risk because you probably know already.

I am a man and I have LOTS of tattoos. I love to surf, hike and be outside. BUT being inked is a lifestyle choice and I know that. So I wear a wetsuit, I wear long sleeves and I wear sunblock all the time. I have spent thousands of dollars and I have my bodysuit almost complete. This means I can NEVER use a tanning bed and I have to avoid excess sun forever. That is okay with me. I love my ink and want it to last forever.

As a guy I am going to be honest here. I think overly tanned girls look stupid! It isn't sexy, it isn't cute and it isn't healthy. It also makes you look old and will destroy your ink. People who bake in tanning beds look weird. Especially if a woman has nice ink that is attractive to me. I also like people with their NATURAL skin color! Baking in a tanning bed was hot in 1985. It isn't hot in 2011. There are tons of self tanners on the market if you want to look darker. If you care about your ink STOP with the beds! Good luck!

A piece like that for the most part will not be bad at all. But generally when getting up on your shoulder closer to your neck the pain greatly intensifies. Closer to your should the less amount of pain.

Best advise is to not worry about the pain. It is all tolerable. Just decide on your tattoo and where you think it will best fit.

Steps in getting a Sleeve tattoo:

You choose the following:
1. The concept or theme. For example is it going to be about music, love, romance, Alice in Wonderland, or nature. This is all up to you. It should always reflect who you are in your heart and soul.

2. You choose the style. Here are the main ones: Tribal, Fineline Color, Fineline Black and grey, Japanese, Traditional America or New School. If you need examples feel free to email me and I will send some.

3. Pick the images you want in the sleeves. For example a music sleeve would have your favorite musicians, instruments, music staff and notes, etc. They should be in the same theme or they look weird.

4. Next you choose open or closed sleeves. Open sleeves leaves lots of space between the images to give it an airy feel. Closed sleeves means all skin is tattooed even between images, this give the sleeve a more powerful look and feel. The choice is up to you.

5. Next choose an artist. This is not for the average tattoo artist. It has to be a master artist, someone who has done a lot of sleeves. Many times there are none in your area so you will have to travel. If you need recommendations email me at the email address below and I will give you some.

6. The rest is up to the custom artist. They will draw up the sleeve first and show you what they have, except tribal is best drawn right on the arm. Make sure you tell them you want a proper sleeve, which means it should start on the top of the shoulder, include the armpit (Yeah it hurts) and finish on the top of the hand like an opera glove. If you want it perfect you can include knuckle and finger tattoos. Donât worry about the hand, because with a full sleeve it cannot be hid anyway, so everyone will know so why not do it right.

7. Next get a second job if not rich, just to pay for the sleeves because they are very expensive.

What does a guy think when it comes to tattoos on girls?

1/ A small one on my hips.
2/ A bigger one along one side of my ribs, a little under my boobs.

I generally think big tattoos and obvious ones that on visible places like arms and hands or legs are trashy. But what about small ones or ones that goes along the ribs that no one can see unless I'm in bikini?

The tattoo I want to get is "Let it be" kinda small on the inside of my wrist. I'm a freshman in college and I'm thinking of getting this tattoo when I graduate in about 5 and a half years as sort of a celebration. I plan on becoming a pharmacist. Would this affect me being able to get a job? I thought maybe if I got I could hide it with long sleeves or bracelets or maybe even cover up. I go to a small local college that teaches Med Assistants & Med Coders and they told us that if we have a tattoo that is visible (such as the wrist, arm or neck) that we HAVE to cover it up with a band-aid, or long sleeves every day that we come into work (and during the clinical classes).

They said that people try to cover it up with jewelry but most of the time, dress codes require only certain earrings, necklaces, and only a wedding ring on the hands. My teacher said "in other words... jewelry like a nun would wear."

But I know some girls that always have to wear a watch over the tattoo (instead of a permanent bandage on their wrist), and they said no one has noticed.

What should i practice drawing to become a tattoo artist?

Oh I would love it if you got give mine a try! I'm getting it done in January but don't have the design for it yet.

It's inspired by a part of my favorite book, "The Book Thief", in which they describe a picture Max draws on the wall. Basically it's a long cloud described as "a tightly knotted rope" that leads to a "dripping yellow sun", and a girl walking on the rope towards the sun, her arms out as though she's balancing herself while walking on a tightrope.

Hope that isn't too confusing, it's kind of poetical and open to interpretation so I'd love to see what you can come up with! :)

Also, if you could google "the book thief" and search for the images so you can see what style of illustrations they have on the book. They're all kind of child-like, very simple drawings, and I'd really like something in that syle, making it seem like it's one od the illustrations in the book. Oh, and the only thing in color is the yellow sun.

We're both girls. I really want to make it special. She's really special to me, like my other half. We have all the benefits of being in a relationship like going on dates, and kissing... that stuff :) lol. Anyways she really loves pokemon, any dubstep or screamo, video games, tattoos and piercing, that sort of stuff. I need help designing a bmw related tattoo?

I'm entering a contest to win a 2012 BMW 3 series car.
To win, I'm going to be getting a (fake) tattoo. Maybe real. I dont know.
I need a tattoo design that has the bmw logo, 2012, and somehow the numbers 5.9 in the design.
If you have any ideas, PLEASE let me know. ;)
I might be able to pay whoever designs it..
btw. I'm a girl, so nothing too manly. Hahaha.

My own recommendation probably isn't going to be something that immediately psyches you out or anything at first. However, I may be able to help you reach into the corporate mind a little. If that is who is judging the contest, it will at least help a little bit. However, if the judges aren't corporate, disregard this. BTW, it would be a good idea to research into the company, it's structure and the people you will be appealing to. ALWAYS do your homework on the people you are trying to please. If you get into their minds when you design it, you will have a better chance at winning.

The BEST thing you can do is to keep it simple. A corporate executive is the kind of person who deals with everyone's work and ideas (including artists and designers), and goes through tons of designs, paperwork, etc. every single day. Peoples' ideas tend to be elaborate, simply due to imagination. So something that is going to appeal to an executive (and most people) is an elegant simplicity. Many of your competitors will be going overboard on the design, making it look super elaborate because we have this odd, natural feeling that complication equals beautiful. It doesn't. On the other end of the spectrum, other competitors will be doing something oversimplified. For instance, basically copying and pasting existing designs. This wont have a great deal of appeal, either. What you need to do is find the middle ground. Something between complicated and overly simple, but that gives off an air of original simplicity upon being viewed.

In addition, you are going to want it to look really slick and cool. You don't want to go with the usual stuff that people picture when they think of tattoos, like thorn-roses, tribal designs, or any other things that give off the impression of a biker bar. Remember that you are dealing with a worldwide corporate auto manufacturer, one that is from Europe and designs very sharp, cool, modern-looking vehicles. I am doubting they are going to be greatly impressed with the aforementioned designs.

Avoid doing the car itself. That's kind of tacky.

I would probably figure out some simple, sharp design that features the beamer logo, while incorporating a tad bit of your own art and those numbers worked into the same single object. Keep in mind balance. When we view something, we first look right to the center (well, actually a tad bit above the center, for whatever reason). If the focal point isn't centered, it will look odd and unbalanced. So you want the focal point to be there, and then outwards from the center have things that also impress. Think it out logically, think about the message you want to communicate. If they look at the center and then outwards, is there a way you can have your design sequentially communicate the message from the center outwards? That's up to you. But regardless, actually put a LOT of thought into the ordering and balance and sizing of everything in the design, as well as the overall design itself. You can bet that all the other top competitors will be doing the same thing. There may even be some actual designers in the contest.

The last tip: please design this yourself. Don't try to buy someone elses' design and then enter it. If you can't draw it, which I highly encourage you to do regardless of your abilities, then at least come up with the entire thing yourself and work with someone very closely to get it as close to what is in your mind as possible. Make a bunch of mockups, as best you can with your ability. This will help you work on it, because a design will look different visually than it does in the mind. But once again, don't just try to pay someone else to produce something for you, because that just isn't cool. The judges and the people putting on the contest want to see original art from people who can create it (whether you draw it or not it should be yours) because, well, that's the whole point of this thing; they aren't just looking to give out a car, they are looking for cool, original new ways to see their brand and logo, and potentially looking for someone to employ. You might even get into some doodie if you try to pass someone else's work off as your own (by the original designer or by the company or by both). And why would someone else do that anyways, if they could just send in THEIR design for themselves and try to win themselves a car? Point is, it should come from you.

What are some good ideas for children's names?

I am getting a tattoo of my children's names. I have two, a boy and a girl. I was thinking of getting their names around my ankle with something like a heart separating the names. I do not want the typical solid heart though. Looking for unique ideas.

And I don't care if YOU think tattoos are stupid I like them and it will be meaningful and I don't care how it will look when I am old. So save all your dumb comments for someone else.

When i got tattoos for my girls I did a lilly and a rose, my daughters names, with a celtic love knot in the middle.

My sister in law has a butterfly with her daughters name in it on her ankle. Now hse has a son too and after a lot of thinking and talking she decided to have a vine done from her foot to her leg with a monkey on it holding a banana that has his name in it.

My cuz did a moon on her ankle that is blowing stars and star dust. Each star has a the name of one of her kids.

Kid tattoos can be a lot of fun.

I have a group of bird silhouettes on my collarbone.

Find something you like that has meaning to you. Like mine represents a bird's need to leave the nest and learn to fly.

i just got hired as a riding instructor at a small stable in florida. i will be working with around 10-15 young girls every day. i have a few visible tattoos that the campers will probably be able to see. i know they are going to probably going to ask about my tattoos. how should i explain my tattoos to them in a way they will understand without getting into trouble with the parents?

the visible tattoos are all 'appropriate' and have personal meanings to me.

I work in an after school club and have a visible tattoo.
Whenever a child asks me what my tattoo is, I say its just a tattoo..
When they ask why I got it, I saw just because I thought it looked nice.

Thats not my real reason, but keep it simple and the kids dont think too much about it.
Make it into this big interesting thing they are more likely to tell their parents.

But the parents where I work dont mind

i love rib cage tattoos i got my rib cage done when i was 17 (after endlessly begging my mom) and it's my favorite tattoo by far, i heard horror stories of how bad it hurts when it really didn't at all, all 4 hours of it. It's your body though so be sure of the design you want, Lillies sound way cute though! :)

For a quote that long on your rib cage, you would have to get the letters pretty big - anything small would tend to blur over time. Honestly, you should try cutting the quote into at least half, maybe even a quarter - look at it and think about which phrase jumps out or means the most to you. It will look better and be less painful and less expensive if you choose one line to get. Yes the ribs are one of the most painful places to get tattooed. And if you want the whole quote you may have to end up paying hourly and the going rate varies but could be about $100-$150 an hour. Also, getting the whole quote would probably mean getting a tattoo much bigger than you had planned on. Again, I seriously suggest looking at it and picking out one line or a few words that would help you to remember the whole quote.

Where would be the best place to put a classy tattoo?

I've always loved tattoos and am considering my very first one now that I'm eighteen. However, my only problem is I'm not too sure where I'd like to have it. It's going to be my family's crest and I would like to have it inked somewhere that would be respectful A.K.A. not a tramp stamp. So I was wondering if anyone that has any tattoos could give me some suggestions?

Being that you are girl in my opinion its not only where you put it but how you shape it to your body. Also, you may need to worry about it not being seen by employers. Generally, rib cage, lower back to the side, mid-back could be difficult to be seen unless in bathing suit. Then it could be tasteful on you upper back or ankle. Usually putting it in the middle of lower back, upper leg, lower stomach, etc could be considered trashy. Also take into consideration the natural curves your body has. Some tattoos even look better when you match them to the natural beauty your body already has. My personal favorite it the upper rib cage with its intense curves. I would just do a lot of research, get a good design, and find a good artist then it really doesn't matter..good luck!

Will you be a girly girl in about 5-10 years? That is one question you need to think about. I cover up a lot of tattoos like that. And can you handle pain a lot? Rib tattoos hurt like heck! I have a rib tattoo and I admit, I cried a little. It is the most painful tattoo I've ever had. Try going to your tattoo artist and asking them to combine shooting stars and tropical flowers into a design going up/down your ribs. We are good at stuff like that. But, only if you know you won't regret this and you know you can handle the pain!
