books about native americans?

Jade

I read a book 10 years ago when I was in middle school about a young girl whose family settled in america. I don't remember many details, but I do remember that her family was killed by the Natives, and for some reason they spared her and took her in. The girl was twelve in the story I think. She had to learn to speak their language, and live in their society, and there was something about when the girls menstruated, they were basically quarantined to a hut where the laid on cots all day until their cycle ended, and the main character was jealous of the girl who she had come to know as her new sister starting her cycle first.
If anyone knows what this book is called, please let me know.
Thanks guys
